Hi Nick

Not heard anything either.

Just to check your source material for Logan is it 4k Bluray or standard Bluray or 4k stream?

Regards
Bob

Hi Bob

Logan was on 4k. But Iike all the other movie scenes that cause the problem, It happens on Bluray as well. I tried the scene in passengers on streaming and it still did it.

Cheers

Nick

There’s an issue here whether the DSW can inherently handle those bass frequencies/levels or not - DSP speakers are supposed to be inherently safe from such destructive behaviour. This implies that their limits were not correctly profiled in to the DSP limiter, or some-such. Definitely needs a fix, surprised it’s not been more rapid and the response more apologetic - these are not cheap products.

Exactly the point. These are not cheap products.

I and several others have described the issue explicitly and it is wholly repeatable so I am disappointed they have not acknowledged the issue and perhaps given advice on configuration and settings or that they see the issue and it will take a while to create a fix / solution. I can understand it may be non trivial to fix but they should at least acknowledge the issue exists.

I have an acknowledgement from Meridian when I reported the problem to them:
Quote
Thank you for contacting Meridian Audio – We’re sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with playback through your DSW.2.
We very much appreciate this problem report. Rest assured that this occurrence has already been passed on to the relevant channels and I will add you to the list of correspondents to inform of any developments.
Please do also report this to the dealer from which you originally purchased your Meridian equipment from.
So they acknowledged the problem exists, this was 2 months ago.

As Frans says, we've heard nothing. I just put up with it tho it doesn't often cause a problem, mainly because in my household the volume levels are often below that which causes the problem. I've got 2-3 4k blurays that do this so most don't. I'm expecting Oppenheimer to do it when I watch it. Never happens with the Sky Q Box or Firestick as source. I like the DSW and that it matches my M system and can't afford to change either!
I do wish M would at least reply to us though.

Maybe a very kind M dealer would be happy to help us with this issue, and approach M on our behalf.
I'm sure we would all be very grateful.
Nick.

Being the owner of four of these and having lived with them for a number of years if I had to make a decision knowing what I know now I would not have purchased them.

There are very capable subs out there for this kind of money and the DSWs never quite reaches the same depths as many of them but I decided to go with Meridian since I am a happy owner of their other equipment, integration would be easier and I always though of the DSWs as accurate. However, the issue affects quite a number of my catalogue and occurs several times in each film. Not only is it annoying but it is sometimes audibly quite uncomfortable, destroys any immersion and is quite embarrassing when people are over.

Whilst I do enjoy my other Meridian equipment and would recommend it all without hesitation I just cannot do the same with the DSW. Meridians lack of response is very unflattering for them and would make me think very hard about buying any of their subwoofers ever again especially as I wasn't a fan of their non-DSP subs. In fact when money was easier to come by for me I did consider upgrading to the DSW.2s but decided against it until this issue was fixed. If Meridian fixed it today and I still had the funds I would have to think long and hard about upgrading or ditching the DSWs all together. In fact lack of funds is the only reason why I still have them.

I am very disappointed in Meridian and how they have handled this or rather how they have not handled it. Not even a response to anyone it seems who is affected by this. Poor show indeed.

Anyway I hope my experiences as a long time multiple DSW owner helps your decision making process and that you end up happy with whatever sub you decide on DSW or otherwise.

Anthony.

Thank you very much for your response, it is very helpful. It is such a poor service of Meridian to just stay quiet on the matter. They are expensive subs. I am happy with my DSP7200 but would like to add a sub to be less dependent on room modes and add a tiny bit off 'trouser flapping'. The DSW looks good, can be controlled via IP with my 218, integrates well and is not too big. However, it has no specs ever published, has limited settings and is expensive. I think it is such a missed opportunity that you can' t control the crossover outside 120 and 80Hz. The surface area of the 12" DSW driver is smaller than the 4x8" drivers in the DSP7200, so I doubt there will be much gain.
All considered, I will wait for the new DSW that may come out this year or I will look for analogue options. But then I would be worried about the latency of the DSP making the sound not coherent. The incomprehensible challenges that life serve us.
