Hi Guys

Don't know if anyone can help. I have a MCD Pro Player, The the original one Meridian bought out way back in 1984. Guess what i’ts still running well and sounds great. I do have an issue though, hence this thread.

It’s probably been bought up before, the paintwork on the player has started to become sticky. It’s more of a rubber type paint.

Anyway, is there anything I can do about it, to stop the sticky feeling. I guess a new chassis is out of the question. The player is still so good it’s a shame if nothing can be done. Maybe a respray, buy what about the text on the player, or maybe Meridian still has a chassis in stock?

Please advise

Don't you just hate to buy something described as mint condition and you find what they actually meant was polo mint (with holes).

I'm not sure I do remember that coming up before but it's possible.

You could try contacting Mr Tech Guy (link towards the top of the page) as he may well be able to assist / point you in the right direction.

I haven't seen one in person but from the pics it looks a lot like the Nextel coating my Revox components have which is indeed not a hard enamel or paint but more... soft. In Revox land you strip the old stuff off and respray Nextel Suede. If MCD uses that stuff anyway. I can't think of another paint that is like that. Once it goes all weird there isn't anything you can do other than take it off.

I hate this kind of plastic with a passion.

There's a YouTube video on removal of this evil stuff here and it sounds like Adam may have an answer on what you could use in its place. I suspect you'll need to be creative about replacing the lettering, maybe creating a stencil using their typeface along with careful use of a compatible enamel paint?
