I've got a 561M in a stack underneath a 596 and a 504, with all three on a semi-enclosed shelf. Lately the 561M has taken to losing type and failing to output audio to the front L/R speakers (sub, centre and rears OK).

It was running quite warm so I moved the 596/504. 562 now runs much cooler and hasn't fallen over once (yet).

Now I'm wondering about adding a fan - there's a cut out for a 40mm fan in the base panel. But I don't know whether the electronics to drive it are there already (on a PSU board perhaps). Pulling the 561 out (with a myriad of ins and outs to disconnect) is something I only want to do once, not once to check and again to fit. Removal means losing *all* my home audio and video.

Anyone (except Meridian, of course) know if there's a convenient connector labelled 'fan' hiding away in there somewhere?

Thanks - GeoffT.

Al I can say is that my 561M does have a cooling fan fitted - M fitted it when I was having problems with the main composite out when warm. That fault was since fixed.

Interestingly, with MConfig set to only switch the fan on when warm, it has so far *never* come on. With it on though, I do find the noise intrusive.

Afraid I am not going to volunteer to take my 561 apart to see how connected, but a friendly email to M might get an answer.

The fans are fairly straight forward to fit. Meridian supply a little kit with the fan, screws and a simple diagram. The only drawback is the cost of the fan itself which is less than half the price from CPC. The 561 I had was more stable after the fan was fitted. I didn't find the noise intrusive.

Many thanks for that. Yes, I see there are a few suppliers of 40mm fans - some claiming very low noise levels (at the cost of cfm) - but what I'm not clear about is where to connect it. Don't suppose you still have your diagram?
