Just a quickie.

Can I run BNC comms instead of the 5 pin DIN?

I'm wanting to run an SW1600 off a pair of DSP3200's.

I have got the sound running fine from them to the sub, just need volume control now.

I presumed, being BNC, I could simply run the positive and negative. But it is not working. I have tested it with a multimeter and all wired correctly.

I'm running an AC200 into the DSP3200s and want to add the sub.

Have I missed something? Is it because I am running it from the slave out?

If you have BNC at both ends will work.

Also BNC to 5 pin works.

Ask the question on google and it should refer you to an earlier Meridian unplugged on same question.

I guess I need a 180º 5 pin DIN?

Google searching for “DIN BNC” on this site finds some discussion but not the pinouts. However, the diagram you posted shows the pinouts of the DIN side which look correct …
There is also a Meridian Custom Comms Cable section and PDF in the wiki that’s a good reference for DIN pinouts.

My experience (when I was using an 861v6 with legacy DSPs)…
I’ve cut the DIN plug off one end of a comms cable and then soldered a BNC on to the cable.
I’ve also made up adapter cables (DIN socket to BNC) so the original leads did not have to be cut.
Both of these solutions worked fine.

However, these were all processor to first Master or Slave DSP.
Between first and second DSP I was still using legacy comms.

Presumably gizzE’s asking about RJ45 to comms only from the slave SL port on the AC200. Isn’t there a RJ45 to DIN adapter (for the UHD722) that would do the same?

tldr; From a SpeakerLink out RJ45 port, connect the Master line (1/2) to the BNC input of the SW1600.

This is my opinion based on work I did trying to get a DSP5000 center speaker as Master controlling the volume on a pair of M6 speakers as left and right. I didn't run actual tests or an oscilloscope to verify these ideas. This is purely inference from observations I made while trying to get the above scenario working. Yes, it was one of the more strange combinations I tried because I wanted to figure out how it would work.

Following traces on the PCB for the SL00 slave patch card from an 861 seems to verify these ideas, but again, I don't have conclusive testing to support it.

Running from the slave out of the AC200 shouldn't be a problem.

Which wires are you using for positive and ground out of the slave output?

It's been a while, but the last time I ran through this, the slave output ports and the slave wiring is a little interesting.

All speakers listen for commands on the master lines.

The slave wires in SpeakerLink is what the Master speaker uses to "relay" the commands to the rest of the speakers. On a device like the AC200, the slave return wires of the Master port are mirrored to the Master lines of all the Slave ports. On the speaker, the "relay" of the commands is done on the PCB, so the the output port on the speaker uses the master lines directly. Basically, setting a speaker to Master simply tells the speaker to relay any signal it sees to the Slave line.

On the S5 DIN plugs, I believe it's why pins 1 and 5 are tied together. The input DIN "reads" on pin 1, and the output DIN "writes" on either pin 5. Because the pins are tied in the S5 cable, the downstream speaker sees the signal on pin 1.

AC200 -Master- DSP3200 -Slave- SW1600
AC200 -Slave- DSP3200

3.
AC200 -Master- DSP3200 -Slave- DSP3200
AC200 -Slave- SW1600

Non control the volume of the sub.

I'm stumped at this point.

OK, just made up a 5 pin DIN, still no volume control.

Looking at this Audio Core 200 Discontinued topic ...
It would seem that maybe the AC200 or DSP3200 can not send a signal to legacy speakers?

Also, I take it the diagrams, as above and on this page SpeakerLink used as Digital Out (XLR or SPDIF) plus COMMS and RS232.
Are solder side for the pins?

Has anyone got DSP3200s passing on a comms signal to legacy kit?

Yes ... and I just confirmed by looking at a spare DIN plug I have to check the pin numbering on the connector itself.

As a experiment have you tried connecting a SW1600, using your adaptor directly, to the AC200 SpeakerLink (Master) out?

The guys at Martins are going to ask Meridian, the only thing we can think of is the comms address is different for the AC200 compared to the other controllers.

What is the bridge cable needed on the C5 end of a master cable for when using an AC12 with legacy speakers?

I'm trying to think what that actually does.
The pin 5 to ground.

I have jumpered pin 1 to pin 5 on the 180 speaker end, but obviously can't do the jumper on the C5 end as I just have the master and ground.
