Is it possible to use the HD621 plugged into a stereo DAC
I understand from the manual that it is possible to make the HD621 down-mix everything to stereo CD quality.
It seems to me that I could then plug the first of its SmartLink sockets into my DAC.
This will be a very good way to have all the HDMI sources outputting their sound through the hi-fi.
What do you think?

It's possible as far as I know to use with non-Meridian equipment. However, the remote control wont work, for example you have to push the buttons manually to switch trough the HDMI input's (see FAQ on last page.) I think it's also best to disable AAC, AC3 and DTS bitstream, depending on your DAC of course.

In the audio settings of the HD621 set MHR to no or otherwise a non Meridian DAC won't know what to do with the encryption.

Yes it worked great with other brand DAC as I tried.

It gives the information to the sources to output stereo only. The sources realise the downmix themselves. But works fine if you disabled MHR (perhaps you will be limited to 48 kHz max).
