Yes - similar (861v6 and 818v3),
My front L/R speakers are driven from the 818v3. The centre and rears are driven from the 861v6. The front SpeakerLink output is fed into the SpeakerLink input on the 818v3. Nearly all sources are mirrored on both units.
This gives me full MQA from the 818v3 and full surround when I watch movies. I also have the 800v4's aux digital out directly into the 818v3 for MQA CD playback. The ID41 links to Roon.
A bit experimental to setup - you need to tweak timings to keep fronts and centre in check, and run two separate configs, but works well for me!
Cheers, Steve

... you need to tweak timings to keep fronts and centre in check Hi Steve, Did you conclude what signal latency was for the 818.3? (From a conversation way back when with Richard Hollinshead I have 3.5ms in mind.) Regards, Carl

Thank you for the info, does it give a lot better sound than the 861? I don't play Roon I'm just running Spotify digital.

Hi Carl,
It depends...
The way that I currently use my system with the 818v3 driving M&K analogue active monitors, I've added 1ms to the 861v6's centre / sub outputs and it sounds fantastic. When I tried to make it work with the 7200SE's, I added the 3.5ms and it didn't sound right - I experimented for some time and couldn't get it to be coherent, it was always just a 'bit' out... Do bear in mind that I was mixing legacy (5500HC / SW1600) and 7200SE's - so there's bound to be timing differences somewhere...
I've tried it on a friend's system with the additional 3.5ms and that sounded awful - We experimented for some time and got it OK (but not perfect), so most likely going to utilise D2 on the speakers for the 861 input (D1 goes to his 808v6) My friend's room is an absolute nightmare to get anything sounding good - it takes two subs to give you low frequencies and that's with 7200's, 5500HC and 6K's!!
I think it is a case of try it and see how it works - if you can get it to sound 'right', it is a great solution, if not, utilise the 2nd digital input on the DSPs!
Cheers,
Steve

With regards to sound - Yes!
As I listen to a lot of MQA material, I would not want it going anywhere near the 861 as that will strip the MQA encoding. Even before I had MQA, the 861 could sound a little 'flat' and less engaging in comparison to the 818v3.
As I'm now using Analogue active monitors, the analogue output stage on the 818v3 seriously trumps the 861's OA18's.
I used to use the 818v3 connected via USB to my PC and streamed Spotify with good effect - moving to Roon/Tidal (with MQA) is another level...
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve, I use the Ultra DAC and 861v8 in the same way as you. What setting do you use for the 861 front L/R SpeakerLink out? I have it set to DSP speakers to get the correct level into the Ultra. The step up in sound quality is very noticeable. Regards Colin.

Hi Colin,
Likewise - the 861 is set to output to digital speakers.
I definitely notice the improvement in sound quality and also the flexibility for two-channel and surround.
I'm not at the point where I can justify an Ultra DAC yet!
Cheers,
Steve

On the L and R outputs of the 861, they both carry the left and right signal. This allows either home run or daisy chained speakers.
