Bottom of post, it appears Meridian branded but I don't have a clue what the heck this thing could even do I tried it with all my equipment nothing works, I can't even find the freaking battery compartment ...

Another question, does the Meridian system remote only work on one piece of equipment at a time? I know how to set a control unit versus slave, but I would like to be able to control the DVD player to skip tracks and stuff but I don't want to lose control over the surround controller, am I stupid how can I control the 596 DVD at the same time as switching parameters on the surround?

The remote could be for the short-lived 586 DVD player. As it was based on Toshiba electronics, it would make sense.

To control multiple devices just requires them to be linked together using comms cables, put the lot into standby, and press CLEAR on the remote. This should select one as the controller (typically the surround processor) and then you can use FN + command key to operate the selected device - normal key presses will operate the master unit.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Steve

I think a 586 is in the 3 items that I have to get repaired, I'll check it out, I have a zero output D33, 586 with 'no load' issue and 598 DVD with no power. The rest work great!

Hi,

It would be useful if you could list your equipment in your "signature" (just as I have below) so we can see what other kit you have.
I can see from the photo that you have a L&R pair of 6000 speakers and a 5000 vertical centre, but can't see what the processor is.
I'm not sure what parts are available for the 586 DVD player as it's based on a Toshiba unit but you should probably be able to get the 598 repaired.

Will do, I'm still cataloging as I have another rack of processors, DSP, etc. It's intimidating.

That's very kind of you, thank you.

I've always wanted some equipment like this, it's given my CD's a WHOLE new life, they sound AMAZING.

I was going to sell a few things I'll never use, but I'm going to soak in the system and then decide, I can really do 3 complete rooms by the look of it.

That's why I chose my avatar, I'm literally in shock smile

Best regards,
Jeff

Looks like Steve is right.
Check out this eBay 586 listing with pics … the same remote is in the picture.

Hi,

There is a HiFi News review on “Duncans Meridian Info” and I’m sure I still have a review from “Stereophile Guide To Home Theatre” around somewhere.
