My second system is a L-C-R 5200 setup. The right hand speaker has just thrown a wobbly - its giving me a loud hiss like white noise, but I can recognise some 'proper' sound mixed in there.
They are about fifteen years old, so quite possibly something has gone wrong but I don't know what. I assume it's on the noisy speaker rather than the feed from the master.
I'm in Australia and I don't have any Meridian dealers locally, but I do have a couple of good repairers who repaired the PS on my G68. If I can work out what needs fixing it, I can work out who can do it.
Main system: 818v3, 861v6, HD621, Oppo 103D, DSP8000PP, DSP7200SE HC, DSP3200, SGR Sub Family room: HD621, 861v6, DSP5200 L/C/R Headphones: Schiit Mjolnir v1, Sennheiser HD800; (office) iFi iDSDPro, Focal Elegia

Have you first checked it’s the speaker by swapping one of the others in? If not it could be the channel from the processor at fault or a cable, etc.

Apologies for the delay and thanks for the very practical suggestion.
I took the left feed (the left speaker is fine) and put it onto the dodgy speaker (currently right). I retyped it and also changed to D2 in case it was the input.
I still get the gigahiss. No hiss if there is no incoming.
I think this probably narrows it down to the speaker?

Hi,
I've come across this before and it turned out to be a fault on the Comms/DAC board...
You've ruled out the input board by trying both D1 and D2 inputs.
You may want to drop an e-mail to Mr Tech Guy to see if he has any spare comms boards (or can offer a repair) I know from past experience that Meridian doesn't have any spares.
Good luck,
Steve

Might sound a bit daft, but hard power everything off - including the controller (861 or G6x or whatever) and all the speakers. Then power it all on again just to check.
I had a hiss from one rear speaker - It was caused by the G61R and a series of power cuts I suffered. Switching everything off and back on again and it was all good - something had got its knickers in a twist in the power cuts
