Hi,

I had a lot of tries to get a digital output from a G61 which is not encrypted.
Even setting the digital output to No; is not working.

The difference between yes and no is that with the distortion over a DAC is darker ???

Is there any decryption device out there?

Like the Hucht copy processor.

Andreas,

What are you trying to achieve?

There are analogue outputs if you want line level analogue (into an amp for example), and the Digital speaker outputs are just PCM SPDIF connections (at least that's all the DSP speakers need as input).

The only connections that have any 'encryption' are I think the multichannel Digital inputs - that support MHR, but I think even that is optional.

Please describe what you are trying to connect.

If you set the output to 18bit DSP ‘speakers, the SPDIF is non encrypted; set to 24/96 it is encrypted.
I did this with a 568 feeding a 518 running as a volume control feeding AES/EBU to a digital crossover.

All the best,

Steve

In MConfig, double click on each of the speakers and untick 96/24 capable.

Wait, are you saying that I could have say seven DSP 24/96 speakers in a speakerlayout? Add a digital subwoofer and just de-click 24/96KHz capable and it will just turn off MHR for that speaker? Or will it just stay quiet in movies?

Also, is MHR really necessary in this day and age? Trinnov doesn't encrypt its 16-32 channels does it?

It would simplify for legacy gear greatly when we can just connect new speakers with non-Meridian DSP's with no extra DA/AD conversions etc.

Subwoofers and Bass Tactile transducers is one area where digital choice would be beneficial.

There would still be an issue for volume control as the M processor is expecting gain control to be performed within the DSP speaker controlled via M-COMMS.

For Trinnov systems connected to DSP speakers the Trinnov processor uses internal digital attenuation to manage the gain.

The DSP speakers are typically set to unit and left that way (I think that's one reason why Meridian's new XE range don't have a display on them anymore and support fixed gain mode).

Important to note is that the Trinnov Altitude 32 series can only do 16 digital channels. The rest have to be analog.

Hi Bruce,

This does not solve my issue.

Even if it is not upsampled, it is still encrypted, which even the old Meridian can do that.
That is why you have to put the output to no. They can not handle the 96, but, they can handle the encryption.

Problem is still open.
As long there is not a legacy direct dig. output it will not work.

At the end it is not a big problem only some bits needs to be shifted.
So still looking for a decryption device

Hi Anders,

You are not going to find a 3rd party device to decode MHR, it's proprietor to Meridian.

Did you try the advice given by Syles and Chris G?

Regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

yes and yes and yes.

The G61 is missing a normal dig output. Everybody else have it.

Now in easy words:

The dig output for the speakers is always encrypted (point)

To use this signal as an normal dig out you have to decrypt it (point).

My friend who could do that in a fly was killed, because he made a universal sat signal decryption unit.

Not correct: As already mentioned by other hikers, the output is not encrypted in legacy mode, which is enabled by disabling 96/24 support for that speaker in the speaker config. Older DSP speakers like the 18 bits versions of the 5000, 5500 and 6000 do not support encryption and are limited to 48kHz.

The digital data to the analog outputs is also always non-encrypted and 96/24, so adding a SPDIF encoder to the I2S lines to the DACs will also provide a non-encrypted digital output. The only problem is that you have to keep the volume at the reference level (87) because of the hybrid volume system to get 100% output.
