Does anyone know what the digital bypass socket on the back of the 565 does?
Background. At one point (maybe a few years ago) I had a two room system working with a 565 in one room and a 551 in another, with a digital out from the 565 going to a third party d/a converter to and analogue input on the 551. With an upgrade of the main room fronts from m60s to dsp5000s I'm looking for anothert way to connect this, and I'm looking for a 5.1 Digital Output on the 565.

Hi,
Presumably the digital bypass, simply passes whatever digital input is selected (coax or optical) back out again irrespective if it's 2ch PCM (from a CD player) or DD (AC-3) from a DVD/Bluray or LD player.
Passing DD onto another DAC for another system might not be good. You can probably use the analogue L&R channel outputs to feed your second system (if you're now using the digital output to your speakers) but beware the volume (on the second system). Investing in a second pre or processor might be worth looking into.

After more consideration, the only input from the main room that I'd like to copy to the 2nd room is the TV, and it's only a nice to have, so I'll not worry about it. Mind you that's the TV I just knocked over and destroyed while reaching behind it to get to the 565 to 506 cable :-( Replacement should arrive tomorrow.
