I currently have a G61R, a pair of DSP5200.2s, and a couple subwoofers. Since I don't use the surround functions of the G61R, sticking with it gets me basically Trifield, which I could live without. The G61R can't do PEQ, really, and can't take a stream directly.

I'm thinking about moving to a MiniDSP SHD, and then simply outputting SPDIF direct to the 5200.2s. Anybody tried this?

I used to do direct SPDIF from a HifiBerry streamer before I got the G61R, and it worked great, but I haven't tried other devices, so I don't know if this was a fluke or if I should expect the DSP5200s to take basically any good SPDIF signal.

As long as it is 24/96 or lower samples rates, and RCA stereo SPDIF you should be good to go.

I run a MiniDSP SHD Studio into two Velodyne subs and a set of DSP5200SLs (that I bought from Bruce incidentally) and the DIRAC room correction is amazing. Plus, you can control so much of the sound outside of the DIRAC program, as well. Great piece. Keep in mind it converts all signals to 96/24 no matter what the incoming original format.

Living Room: TV-->Sonos Arc with Symfonisk rears and twin Sonos subs. Also, a set of DSP8000SE with a MiniDSP SHD for stereo listening.

Awesome! How does volume control work to keep the subs (analog) and the mains (SPDIF) at the same level? Do you just fix the volume on your 5200s? Is that a setting I haven't seen?

I believe all signals go through a 32 bit digital volume system. So, I leave the DSPs at a set volume and use Roon to control the MiniDSP.

Cool, thanks, I purchased one, and I'll be trying it out asap. This could be the solution for a modern Meridian controller if Meridian themselves continues to deprioritize their hardware development. It's a shame they don't have anything like the MiniDSP, this should be their strength!
