I'm looking for advice on how to set up ROCK so that it can send multichannel music through the HD621.

My ROCK (Intel NUC) is connected to the HD621 directly via HDMI.

From progress made so far it seems I am forced to make a choice between either:

True 96Khz stereo and NO multichannel at all, or Roon converting everything to 48Khz first and then I get BOTH stereo and multichannel, but both downsampled.

Is there a way to set this up so that both stereo and multichannel streams can work up to 96Khz?

That's odd, because my intel NUC HDMI output into the HD621 seems to successfully deliver discreet 5.1 hires files into my surround (C61R). I prefer using a miniDSP UD-I08 USB-to-8 channel SPDIF device instead for better SQ, but your NUC should work without down-sampling. ??????

I don’t have a ROCK but Roon should be set to output (from your ROCK) PCM at 88.1 or 96K to your 861. You will need a ID40 (861v4) or ID41(861v6 or v8) as a streamer.
As you only need 96K, you can stream from any other M streaming devices such as the legacy MS200 or 600 for example. I prefer a 218 to my ID41 or ID40 for stereo.

Had another play today going through all the HD621 options - same result: Stereo @ 96kHz and NO multichannel, or Roon downsamples to 48kHz and it all works. Well, at least I have sound, and 48kHz is probably "good enough" for this.

You have a settings issue at the source or in the HD621. See the HD621 user guide in Duncan’s info. It accepts multichannel LPCM at 88.2K and 96K and outputs them to your processor.

Thanks, clearly I'm being dim, having read all these things and it's still not working.

Perhaps somebody that has it working could supply their settings... otherwise I'll have to stick with the 48kHz setup I have working.
