Hi,

I have the following Meridian equipment. I have read several ways to connect this for my audio only set up. Frankly I'm confused as to the best way to do this for optimal sound.

Meridian 218 controller
Meridian 5200SE speakers using SpeakerLink cable
Meridian DSW
Roon Nucleus
PC/iPad either can be used

I am connecting my network to the 218 network input from my network connection box which is directly connected to my comcast gigabit modem router.
The speaker, 218 and DSW manuals all show a slightly different connection configuration.

Speakers show simple out of the 218 to the 5200’s L/R

A second diagram shows the 218 bottom SpeakerLink cable out to the Master master in and the master out of the 5200 to the input of the slave speaker. ( this was my traditional set up I used before getting the subwoofer)
Configure spec shows use Type 1 setting, but also mentions type 6 if connected to a Meridian controller. Which is it using the 218? DSP config 1C?

Roon is connected to my router box which is then connected to the comcast router/modem? Should Roon go directly to the 218 input?
The DSW subwoofer manual shows using s core 200 example (is the 218 considered the same in this set up?)
Core/218 bottom SpeakerLink out to the master in of the 5200 with the top 218 output to the DSW subwoofer input then out to the 5200 slave input
Sub setting to 1+2

Can any one help with the best options, should be straight forward but I am a bit confused with the settings and config?

In my system….

Router > Network Switch > NUC and 218 (the latter accesses the former via the Network Switch by Ethernet Cable). That is, I do not have any direct connection between the NUC and 218.

Then, in my system, 218 > Direct/Separate SLS to each M6. Then, the DSW connects to one of the M6’s.

In the DSW sub manual it shows the connections to do

step one 218 SpeakerLink bottom out to the 5200 in

step two top spk link out to the subwoofer in

step 3 the subwoofer out to the slave 5200

That sounds OK.

I’m not too familiar with the Roon Nucleus, but in theory you could connect it to a processor or a DAC directly via it’s HDMI or USB outputs, with the 218 the sensible thing is to connect both (the Nucleus and the 218) to you network and run them separately.

Wow, let me know. More than happy to pay for a consultation to review and check out my set up to make sure it is optimized? I was pretty good with with this stuff about 10 years ago when I had built a room specifically for audio with 7200’s 2 subs an 818 and solos. Memory escapes me out of practice with all this.

Like when I set up the dip the master (red0 identified however, although it’s playing the Slave did not register on the setting window. I thought a yello light or S designation was on the screen but I have nothing but SLS and the volume on the slave unit etc. let me if that’s possible?

Question on a couple of 218 settings

EBC i have set to free as the speakers are at least 15+ inch ices from any walls?????? Correct?
The source selection is SooLoss in the settings of the 218?
Lastly comes is set to auto?
