Wonderful HT and congrats on the project. Stuff of dreams for me but fascinating to see one created. I shall think of it as I drive past to watch Wimbledon tennis (hopefully) this year!

Just seen a Barco van go past my study window, I wonder if they are on their way to Chris' smile

Is that generally accepted? My uneducated guess would be that the proportions of the room & the materials that it's constructed from (rigidity, isolation from the building surrounding it) would be more important than size.

And what size is your room Chris; 7m x 4m?

Cinema: Meridian 271, 3 x DSP640 (behind screen), 4 x DSP320 (in-ceiling), 4 x DSP3100 (surrounds), 2 x AC12 (interface). 2 x Perlisten D12s subs, Lyngdorf MP40 processor. DT 145" 2.35 AT screen. Sony VW870 projector & S-T lens, Lumagen Radiance Pro.
Lounge: Roon, NUC, Kef LS50 Wireless + 2 x REL Gibraltar-2 subs

Very good point! Firstly, room is something like 9m x 6m.

What I should have said is small and large rooms have completely different sets of issues that are at 2 ends of the spectrum but that (in general) it's possible to fix the small room issues without spending too much money. You definitely need some money with small rooms but in the grand scheme of things it is still small. With larger venues there is every likelihood you will have to spend quite a bit getting it to work acoustically and in some cases no amount of money can fix it (Royal Albert Hall sounds terrible IMHO for example). Also I guess if your small room has all kinds of weird angles, openings and so forth I guess it might be hard to fix that too!

Best

Completely agree re: RAH acoustics. I’ve never thought it sounded good either, despite the huge mushroom shaped acoustic baffles hanging from the ceiling (assuming they’re still there - it’s a been a few years since I attended). Presumably they were some kind of attempt at fixing the acoustics.

P.S., what steps did they take in your room - did they build bass traps in, or anything like that?

That’s simply awesome!

Every time I see black carpet, it reminds me of a mate of mine who used to have some of the Emperor’s throne room carpet in his BMW from when they wrapped shooting ROTJ.

Also can’t remember if I mentioned it but I won mega bonus points by re-creating the actual night sky from the night of our wedding in the cinema star ceiling!
