Folks,
Hoping more minds will help with something that I’ve been puzzling over...
I’m making the switch from 861 to Trinnov. I’ll be using the digital outputs from the Trinnov to feed my M speaker fleet. No problems there. I want to use the Trinnov for volume. Why? Most of my media is through Roon, and people (spouse) are comfortable with changing the volume in Roon or through a Harmony remote. Through Roon on Trinnov, this adjusts the volume of the Trinnov unit.
No big deal, thinks I. I’ll set the speakers for 87, and call it a day.
So... to the title of the thread. I can set the speakers to 87, but the Trinnov and Meridian commands for volume are the same. OK, turn off the IR on the speakers... no big deal... except, how do I get the speakers into standby?
The goal: When I “power off” the system with the Harmony remote, the speakers should go into standby. Similarly, when I power on the system from Harmony, or by playing something in Roon, the speakers need to come out of standby.
Maybe the answer is the 271 and the 12v trigger. Honestly, I’m not even sure the 12v trigger to the 271 would do the right thing in terms of standby on the speakers. If it does, seems like extreme overkill just to get standby functionality?
Thoughts?

From what I understand, Logitech has discontinued the Harmony. Look into Crestron or URC for systems that can controlled over IP and RS232. This can be set up on a simple, easy to use handheld remote for not alot a money considering what you have invested in hardware.

One easy way can be using a remote eye and place it so, that the remote doesn't support both receivers (Trinnov and speakers) at the same time. When you have Roon, you don't need the IR-receiver in the Trinnov, that could be another solution. Also Bruce solution is nice, it depend on you. The 271 just for on/off is a little overshoot

Wow, that's a bummer Whatever they say publicly, I guess it's only a matter of time before the remotes stop working as Logitech won't want to continue updating the phone apps used to configure them when they're no longer making money from this part of the business.

I have my centre speaker (7200HC) set as Controller so it receives IR commands (On/Off/Source) , Trinnov can be turned on with any Wake on Lan app and then volume/source controlled by VNC on phone or iPad ( so no crossed signals with speakers )

I would love to go Crestron, but I would want to do my own programming. Crestron Home seems to allow for “tinkerers” much better than the regular line, but right now, I would want to do some custom UI work and limit it to the home theater room. Crestron Home doesn’t seem to allow that. It really is aimed at a “whole house” paradigm from the demos that I’ve seen. In the short term, I may try to use an Arduino with a IR receiver and RS232 as a proxy to the speakers. Then I’ll just filter the IR codes in the proxy and only pass through the ones I want (power on/off) to the speaker via RS232. Longer term, I’ll continue investigating Crestron and others to see if there’s a good solution that allows for me to tinker.
