I know nothing of quiescent power conditioning etc, perhaps you could elaborate for our mutual benefit.

I do not disagree with your final statement.

What you talking about bro?they are 2 totally different device.hardware wise the 861.8 with ID41 is much more similar with the 818.3,but still the 818.3 sounds much nice.

All of this discussion so far makes Russ Andrews’ offerings look like an absolute bargain by comparison (and if you don’t like what you have purchased, you can return your purchase within 60 days).

Hi Asa Post,

As per your suggestion I visited Quiescent site, I was not enamoured.

Quiescent OED
1 motionless, inert.
2 silent, dormant.

I cannot believe either their advertising propaganda or their prices, but hey that is just my opinion.
Quiescent are advertising solutions to problems I have not encountered.

Greetings Meridian "Hitchhikers"...

Sorry for the ask but does anyone have access to the latest 818v3 firmware? I think it's 4.14? Obtained one second hand and want to update. Now to find my serial cable... grin

Definitely going to try some upgraded cords and such since I have to get a power distributor to plug 818, 2 DSP5200SEs, my NAS....

Thanks all!

Russ Andrews' cable options start further down in the pricing stakes and are a great starting point for many people. I preferred the Shunyata cables, but they are more expensive.

Hi,

Firmware should be available from your local dealer or failing that I suggest you contact one of the HH friendly dealers that post on here.

I'll PM you their contact details, I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Regards,
Carl

I’m a great fan of the Farad PSU’s into both 210 and 218.
I do run Alpha V2 NR into the Farad/210
I do run Shunyata Omega as the best SpeakerLink cable money can buy IMHO.
I do run Uptone Etherregen with Shunyata Sigma CGS ground cable and external OCXO clock with 75Ohm Alpha clock V2 BNC.

But there is one important thing Richard Hollinshead did before he departed Meridian. He produced the first separate clock card for the 800 series. So where is it? In the Ultra DAC!
This is the best streamer Meridian have ever produced because it could have an OCXO ultra stable clock on that 800-series card. I’d love to see that card some day in other 800-series products!

Meridian could possibly put that separate clock card into both 818 and 861 and have the next über version of them. And it would be an improvement we can hear clearly and appreciate.

Still love this Special Edition DSP Digital Active Loudspeakers video with him.

I understand the importance of an OXCO clock for the UltraDac. But what would be even better than such a clock for all 800 series products would be if such a clock could be introduced to the DACS inside DSP speakers. Then we really would have something worthwhile.

Meanwhile, clocks seem to be delivering stupendous accuracy at ever decreasing cost and rapid evolution.

I'd love to see a decent OXCO clock available in the 8xx series or DSP speakers.

Hmm- Maybe a future upgrade path for DSPs?
