My G68's volume knob is a little slippy: rotating it one click clockwise will register as anticlockwise a third of the time. Does anyone know what part Meridian used and how involved replacing it is?

Hi,

They are easy to source - search for an Alps EC11B15244.

You will need to take the G68 apart (remove the outer lid - 4 Allen bolts, remove the inner lid - 20 Philips bolts) and then remove the front panel assembly - Torx T10 bolts and undo the nut holding in volume control, carefully disconnecting from the ribbon cables.
Then very carefully de-solder the old part and replace it with the new encoder.

Everything works fine apart from the knob slipping - a quick search of fora posts past suggest this was a common issue and easily fixed under warranty. This won't be under warranty any more

I had the same problem when I owned a G68. It was poorly responsive and registered the wrong action a lot of the time. I found it was just due to the accumulation of dirt in the contacts. I removed the board then covered the display part with a small plastic bag which I sealed with tape. I then cleaned the rotary mechanism which is located on one end of board by dipping into ethanol (use high purity stuff; methanol would also be ok). I did this for about 10-15 min turning the mechanism frequently. Dry and replace. Total fixed it for me. I don’t think replacing the rotary encoder part would be that easy and I think you should certainly try cleaning first.

Hmm, normally they're a couple of screws and 4-6 pins to solder. I'm more confident doing that than carefully wrapping the rest of the PCB and sourcing the right chemicals! Thanks for the tip, though.
