First, Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and ideas.
I tried the cisco console cable and it did the trick for the DSP7200SE R & L speakers.
I tried the same on the DSP7200HCSE (using the center channel firmware), and am now getting a "Bad code" readout on the speaker's front panel.
Can anyone suggest a next step to get out of the "Bad code" scenario?
Thanks

You need a null-modem cable between the USB to serial adaptor and the serial to ethernet RJ45 [SpeakerLink] to get it to work. I always use the black one that came with my G68.

I tried the same on the DSP7200HCSE (using the center channel firmware), and am now getting a "Bad code" readout on the speaker's front panel. Power off the speaker at the mains, wait a few seconds then power it back on. Then try again with the firmware update. What version of the firmware are you loading and have you made sure it is the for the HC version not the VC? Regards, Carl

Evdberg, Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid the null model cable didn't work on any of the speakers.
Bruce's suggested cisco console cable worked on the left & Right, but not on the center.

Carl,
I'm afraid the power-cycle didn't work.
The DSP7200HCSE firmware files I'm using are:
C72SE_3_16.mfq & DSP7200SEC.mfp
Are these correct? Thanks

The files look correct to me. I have 5200SEs and a 5200HCSE and my firmware files are the same names as yours except, as you would expect, you have a 7 where I have a 5. Of course, we are just talking file names here. Can you get the centre channel firmware again from your source in case it has become slightly corrupted in transit?

Thanks for checking. I've sent a request to the dealer who sent me the files.

I also got "Bad Code" message when I was going to upgrade the DSP8000 Anniversary speakers. It turns out that the SE firmware is not intended for these speakers and I had to get a special firmware.
Same I guess for the old DSP8000 before Anniversary and SE series was released. But Meridian impress me that even with wrong firmware, the firmware upload program could still identify the type and I could easily flash back the old firmware. Hope it sorts out for you.

I followed Bruce’s excellent advice and used a Cisco console cable with a “vintage” Dell Inspiron 600m (running windows XP) to upgrade the firmware on 8000SE’s and a 7200SEHC.
Trinnov Altitude32 (AL32-816), Meridian 271 and Meridian speakers.
