I have for a while been wondering how best to play with Atmos and the like while retaining my excellent Meridian equipment. I have found a solution and I had intended to post about it on this Systems forum but Robert Wistrela (the admirable Robert of Reviver fame) raised a question about the 271 on the Streaming forum and I sort of stumbled into explaining what I have done in that forum even though streaming is only one feature and wasn't my main motivation.
So, since I have posted some relevant pictures on the Gallery (which I never look at routinely and I suspect many other people do not), and because I know this is a topic which understandably troubles many of us, I thought I should place this cross referencing post on what I always think of as the main forum of Meridian Unplugged.
If you are interested in Atmos and other immersive codecs together with your Meridian equipment do have a read of Robert's '271 Display' thread on the Streaming forum and also have a look at my post in the Gallery.

Thanks for doing the link - very convenient. Getting to the Gallery is a bit circuitous. Can one make a link to there too?
The Marantz 8802A is an excellent processor and I would have used that but I wanted 4 channels of power for my passive ceiling speakers and so the SR7013 is convenient for that. As I remarked, its sound is very good and quite good enough for me for films, TV etc. with a very adequate FM tuner, Heos, Roon etc. as well.

Here's the link to the Gallery. Thanks for your thoughts about the 8802; I'm looking forward to getting it all up & running. We have Meridian actives for Atmos use so didn't need any separate power channels.

Getting to the Gallery is a bit circuitous. Can one make a link to there too? Hi, I agree image support on this forum could be better but it is what it is we are limited by the functionality of UBB software, which frankly is looking tired. In practise the Gallery is only really there only to host uploaded images, with any associated discussion taking place in one of the main forum areas with links that reference the topic in the gallery or more typically using IMG tags so images themselves are directly displayed. As you can see from Ian's post above (thanks Ian for doing that), once done it very convenient to the reader. I think I've pointed you to "how to guide" before which is listed at the top of each forum section ... or use this direct link Embedding weblinks and images in posts - How to Guide. Admittedly it takes a little effort on the part of the author but one soon get the hand of it. If you wish to practise try sending yourself a PM or even to me if you wish. If you get stuck drop me a line. Regards, Carl

Hi Nick,
Just make sure that Meridian don't steal your design and flog it as a £2k add on box for the 271.

Thanks to Ian for making the pictures immediately available and also to Not'arf for the link to the Gallery as this also allows easy access to my text. Carl, you always quite rightly encourage us to read your guidance notes and I apologise for being lazy. The trouble is that I need pictures so rarely that I know I will immediately forget how to do it so I am being a poor Member. I will try harder next time.

Brian, What we need is a nice (probably Chinese) electronics shop to do the job properly and produce a Mark 2 where the (already high quality) relay boards sit on top of a printed circuit board that handles all the interconnections - that is where all the tiresome work is. Better still, Meridian should produce a 271 Mk 2 with either a modified digital input that can handle MHR or, better still, an additional MHR digital-in alongside the Datasat/Storm sockets. Then the 271 could do the switching far more neatly. Nick

Hi Nick,
I think hand wiring all of the connections by yourself would give a nice sense of achievement.
Yes, I can't believe that M didn't think of an additional set of 4 SL connectors (or a version of the MMHR connection) to attach/switch a M processor _ you'd have thought that people who already own M processors would be first in line for a 271 if that was an option.
I've wondered about going down this route myself, but the extra cost of 271 + processor + 4 ceiling DSP's was looking a bit steep, so I'm keen to find out how your approach (with passive ceiling speakers) works out, so keep us posted as to your progress.
Currently I've picked up a JBL Bar 9.1 soundbar for "bounce it off the ceiling" helicopter flyovers _ just for fun.
