Does anyone know the pin configuration that Meridian use for connecting their RJ45 plugs to the cable please? I have a vague idea that it is not standard and not all internal wires are connected. But maybe I am completely wrong on this. Any information will be gratefully received. Thanks.

I'm a bit confused about this request. If SpeakerLink can be replaced with standard CAT 6 cable, why would it matter?

One possible reason is if you’re trying to make up a serial RS232 to SpeakerLink cable to update the speaker firmware

It would matter if you are making custom lengths or in wall runs. They use the 568B wiring standard

Thanks for posting this. Does anyone know if SpeakerLink does not use or connect all the pins? Does Meridian use a non-standard connection? Thanks.

All pins are connected in a 568B configuration as per the supplied diagrams. Pins 3 and 6 are for RS-232

and sorry for any confusion, the point I meant to make was that if Speakerlink cable can be replaced with standard terminated CAT 6 cable why would it matter. As in, this would only be possible if Meridian used a standard format for terminating its cables.

You’re quite right, is the same wiring as standard Ethernet, however Meridian uses the wires in a completely different way. This becomes important if you need to know which are used for signalling as opposed to audio.

AFAIK Meridian are sending comms and SPDIF over an ethernet/SpeakerLink cable. Some audiophile/boutique ethernet cables not only do not connect screens and shields to the plugs; they also do not connect all the wiring pins in an effort to reduce noise. Such cables are therefore unsuited to SpeakerLink use although can be used for internet connections in a network. This is also why such cables do not call themselves cat6, cat7 etc. as they do not conform to those standards. They are usually called ethernet cables.

I changed from Cat 6 to Meridian Speakerlink cables and never noticed a difference, but the completist in me is happy.,
