Hi Friends,
I've had my plain Jane 568 for many years and still love the sound, but embarrassed to ask if I've been cutting my experience short with regards to connection to my Oppo BDP 103.
I was under the impression that by connecting the single digital coaxial output from the Oppo to the digital coaxial of my 568 would be optimal because they are both "digital" connections.
Recently I was reading the instructions on connections and it seems the optimal connections I should be employing is using the multiple analog output from the Oppo straight to the analog inputs of the 568.
I read that the digital coaxial connection and optical connections are ok, but are just truncated version and not optimal. Did I get this right?
Maybe I need to go back into my box of audio spaghetti and look for these 75ohm cables for Left-center-right and rear surround connections??
Thank you in advance.

Heheh, nevermind, just realize I don't have multichannel analog inputs on the 568. Duh.....

I would say, use coaxial digital or toslink/SPDIF connections to get the best digital connection possible on the 568.1 I would advise you to enable High Speed output on the source that you are connecting too, this should improve the sound quality.
I have not used my 568.1 in a long time, but the 568.2mm I am using now has a multichannel digital input. Perhaps that is the kind if input you where thinking about.. ?
Anyway, I would also advise you to run the latest firmware on your 568.1, as far as I can remember that is 1.55

Thank you BokitoNL, does this "high speed output" go by several names? On my Oppo, what are possible names to look for under "audio" section? If there are Oppo owners, would appreciate your help too.
thank you Jaime

Similar ground is covered in the thread 96Khz into optical input. The issue is copy protection on hi res signals. A workaround for Oppo units is the VanityHD cards, but they are very expensive and like Oppo’s themselves, no longer made! Regards Greg

Hi there,
I think there is a little misundertand here, perhaps from my side. What I ment was enable High speed output on the 568.1 side of things.
Use the legacy configuration problem, to configure en anble High Speed output on the sources you want to use for you 568.1. Perhaps this is already turned on.
Anyway, as far I know, connectng a digital coaxial to your 568.1 and use High Speed output on that source, you will get the best possible quality. It will be PCM 96Khz/24Bit 2 channels (stereo) which will be the best kind of signals the 568.1 will support, as far as I know.
I hope this provides some clarification..

NOTE Due to bandwidth limitations, high resolution audio formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. A reduced resolution version of the same audio track will be output instead. To listen to high resolution audio formats in their best quality, please use the HDMI connection if you have a receiver that handles HDMI audio (see page 12) or use the multi-channel analog outputs if you do not (see page 15).
Due to copyright restrictions, SACD audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to SACDs, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections.
Due to copyright restrictions and bandwidth limitations, full resolution audio from DVD-Audio discs cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to DVD-Audio in full resolution, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections. I have copied the same text I had copied in the other post I mentioned. The tricky bit is getting 96/24 INTO the processor. Copy protection enforced on manufacturers means this is not as easy as you may have thought. Meridian introduced MHR for many reasons, but one of them was it allowed them to transfer 96/24 in an encrypted way between audio units. (Do a google search on the site if you want more info on MHR, there is more to MHR than the single sentence Ive just typed). Telling the 568 to output High Speed doesn't mean its receiving High Speed. In the context of the OP and his Oppo, it won't output 96/24 on the digital connections, so Oppo recommend HDMI which has issues for audio in my opinion. Regards Greg
