Spotted this Faulty 861 on eBay and thought this might be a good purchase at the right price given that it's likely to be a power supply issue.

Going to give it a miss as it's unlikely to be a v4 to go with my HD621.

Thought it might be of interest to someone here.

Asking price is wayyy to high at present I think though.

Pass. That is a very old 861 as evidenced by the round front panel buttons and the serial number. In not working condition and given the cosmetic condition I wouldn't give more than a couple hundred for it.

It's owned by a fellow Hitchhiker and looks to be in superb condition.

I don't believe it has digital outputs for DSP unless I'm mistaken so not for me.

Hi Dave

I believe the 861v4 on eBay for £1,500 might be able to be fitted with a digital card!!!

Always worth an ask! 😉

Thanks

Hi

I've spoken to the guy selling. Like you say no digital card. How much would one of those cost? Are they easy to fit?
I'm really tempted to make an offer for the 861 but for me spending that money it has to be right, and I do want to get DSP speakers for the front.

How good is the music DAC on the 861? Will I be able to sell my Chord 2Qute?
Thanks

I have a mint v4 with the required cards and the LPSU fitted, it’s boxed and really is mint. I have been advised I should achieve £2500 but would sell for £2100 to a fellow member. If using with DSP’s you could sell the balanced and 1 unbalanced output cards to recover some of the investment.

Regards
Brian

Thanks but that is well out of my price range. I was hoping for an 861v4 and a pair of DSP5000 for just north of the £2000 mark. I may have to drop to a G model or go with the £1500 one on eBay and wait until I've sold my current Chord DAC and Naim NAC and NAP.

I'm not the most experienced of Meridian owners but would not a 568.2 and DSP6000 speakers sound better than the 861 and DSP5000? I've not heard an 861 although one is on my shopping list if my industry ever gets back to work but I once had a pair of DSP5000s. Willing to bet that the cheaper (much cheaper) processor but significantly better speakers (albeit much bigger) would suit your budget better and sound better.

My 568.2 from Audio Images and DSP6000 from eBay came to a smidgeon over £2000.
