What does the 2+2+2 setting do? What does it mean when it is off?

I currently have a DVD/sacd player into my G68. The CD source is set up with the multichannel analog input while the DVD source is using the optical digital input.

This only allows me to choose Music6 for the multichannel input. I'd like to use Trifield for 2 channel analog CD input, can it be done?

Also, is it possible to setup the CD source so it also uses the same digital input as the DVD source?

The "quick and dirty" solution is to add an additional analog stereo pair on an unused analog input, and assign it to a different button.

This will then behave exactly the way you want it to. In MConfig, just create a different source (like DISC) which has the appropriate inputs and you should be ready to go.

edit, adding this
As for CD source using the same input as DVD, the DVD input should handle this without a problem anyway. Just insert the CD and hit play .

The presented data will be stereo PCM, and it should select Trifield as the default processing algorithm assuming that's your choice for the default for 2-channel music.

Cheers,

Thanks,

Right now the DVD source works fine, it's just that when people use the G68 they need to know to push DVD for a non-SACD CD, it's counter intuitive. The CD source only works for SACDs.

Also, do you mean I need to run another cable from the SACD player to a set of analog ins for 2 channel? Why isn't the Meridian smart enought to treat the first 2 analog inpusts ogf the multichannel input as left and right for 2 channel?

2+2+2 is a music format bij the German Musiekproduktion Dabrinhaus und Grimm: MDG

In this mode the center and sub channel (3+4) are filled with info for 2 additional height channels. This can work on a 861 with channel 9+10
I believe it has the settings: off, 5.1, 7.1 side and height.
Basicly what it does is determine the bahaviour of the center and sub channel.
When off: no center and sub
when 5.1 and 7.1 the are normal center and sub.
When side is selected the channel 3+4 is output on channel 7+8 (side channels)
When High is selected 3+4 go to 9+10

Awnyc:

A couple of points to make...

Ok, then define a phantom source and change its properties so that it uses the same digital input as the DVD player. Then they hit CD and they playback CDs.

To me, this is much ado about nothing, since most people know that DVD players can play CDs as well.

When you select the source that's defined as multi-channel, how does the G68 know that it's only supposed to be setup for stereo on a disc by disc basis? You said it's multi-channel and then you want a behaviour from the input that isn't valid for a multi-channel source. There's no meta-data that tells the player that this is coming across as a stereo only signal.

When you select the input, it's going to fall under the category of multi-channel music and allow DSP functions that are appropriate to that type of input.

You can either string two extra cables for an additional stereo input, which then gets you access to the 2-chan music and movie DSP options, or you can try to define a phantom input, which points to the stereo L/R pair for stereo SACD playback.

There is no easy way to do this, as things sit with the current version of MConfig, and as such this is what you have to do to get things to work the way you want them to.

Whether that behaviour changes down the road or not is anybody's guess.

Cheers,
