Hello. I haven't been here for a while because I've been happily enjoying my Sooloos system without any significant problems. I have Control:PC on my PC, and an MS600 and MD600.
Yesterday, while moving around some of my audio gear I disconnected the ethernet cable from my MS600. Later on when I fired everything up and checked in Configure I'm only seeing the MS600 and Control:PC. I can open Control:PC on my desktop (and also my iPad) but nothing is available.
I have tried - in various sequences - rebooting my router, rebooting my PC, turning off and on the MS600 and MD600 but can't get the MD600 to be recognised. I have had occasional connection problems in the past but have always managed to re-establish things fairly quickly by using the methods described above. Has anyone got any ideas?
Thank you. Jeremy

Check cables?
Any lights on the MD600?

All cables checked. Turn off MD600 (rear switch), turn on (rear switch), lights above drives briefly light, then go out. Light on on/of button turns from blue to white. All normal I think. J.

I forget which way the on/off light is supposed to go. Best check you are actually turning it on đ

I'm fairly sure that blue is standby and white is on but I've tried it both ways. Further confusion because I tried reinstalling Control:PC and I've now lost the ability to open it, albeit I couldn't do anything with it when I was able to open it previously. I've checked my router and it's showing the MD600 in the network map. Most puzzling and frustrating J.

I've checked the small LEDs on the ethernet port at the rear of the MD600. The right-hand one is an orange colour and is flickering which I believe shows there is data activity meaning the MD600 is attempting to talk to the router. The left-hand green one illuminates briefly when the MD600 is first turned on but then goes out. I think this means there is no established connection. I suppose it is possible there has been a failure of something within the MD600 coincidental with me unplugging the ethernet cable from the MS600, but this does seem unlikely.
I have tried briefly disabling my antivirus software and firewall whilst reinstalling Control:PC but again no success. J.

Further note: when looking at the network map in my router I see that DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is apparently enabled in that there is a box to be ticked if one wants to 'Add device into Static DHCP', which presumably disables the Dynamic setting. Meridian say that â âSooloos components are shipped from the factory set to obtain IP addresses automatically from a router via DHCP. If necessary, you can use the Device Configuration facility in the Control Device Manager to turn off DHCP and assign static IP addresses. However, unless you have consistent problems, we recommend that you not do so. It is never a good idea to turn off DHCP for Meridian Sooloos components and manually assign static IP addresses unless you fully understand networking and IP Addressing.â I guess I shouldnât change to Static DHCP. J.

I have to say st Edd configured my Sooloos equipment to have static addresses and everything became more stable there after.

That's interesting. I'd like to hear what setting other people are using. However, it is fair to say that the system was working OK with DHCP enabled until the time I disconnected the ethernet cable from the back of the MS600. Meridian say - "It is never a good idea to turn off DHCP for Meridian Sooloos components and manually assign static IP addresses unless you fully understand networking and IP Addressing." I don't pretend to have much competence with computers so I would be a little doubtful about attempting to change settings. J.

I always configure my endpoints and servers etc to have static IP. Most of them have config pages that I can access specifically to check/update settings etc.
Have you checked if the MD600 is on your network at all? Changed cable? Can you ping it in any way ?

Have you tried running Meridian Device Manager to see if it can see the devices?
Unless you know what you're doing with networking, I would probably advise leaving everything on DHCP.
It could even be the old CMOS battery issue?
Lastly, I'm assuming you've restarted your home router/switch?
Good luck,
Steve
