I am moving to Europe from the US and I do not have any boxes for my DSP8K, so I am thinking to have some flight cases built with cut to fit foam inserts?

Anyone done something similar and able to recommend a vendor for the cases?

I would recommend contacting your local "Craters & Freighters" :: https://www.cratersandfreighters.com/. They are a franchise nationwide, specializing in the build of custom crates for basically anything electronic. I've shipped millions of dollars of equipment with them over the years, and not a piece has been damaged. Custom foam, custom crate, and they deal with the customs paperwork too, so it's very much worth the expense, in my opinion... at least for something the value of the 8K.

And speaking of expense, two crates that size plus shipping will probably run you about $1.5k-2k. You might be able to DIY cheaper, but not a ton, and not with insurance.

Main System: MiniDSP SHD (Roon, Dirac, Volume) > G61R > DSP5200 Speakerlink L/R, 2x SVS SB3000 Subwoofers
Office1 System: Genelec 8030c L/R, Genelec 7060B Subwoofer
Bedroom System: DIY Sure 2x100w Class D Amp, ELAC DBR62 L/R

Oh, and if you go this route, I would personally just ship every damn electronic thing you have of value with them. A crate tends not to get a ton more expensive by weight, so throw everything in and get it over with under the same accountability and insurance.

I build my own when shipping 8000's and such. I use nice quality plywood and the bass cabinets are suspended in the crates from the top and bottom so that the sides never come in contact with anything. The heads are shipped in an additional crate together. Once all of it is strapped to a pallet, it is very secure. Takes a little time but costs less than 300 in materials. Best of all it breaks down flat for easy storage and reuse and won't deteriorate like cardboard.

Do you have any pics, or diagrams - might be very useful for a lot of people who don't have original boxes!

I'd buy some 8k boxes - they're designed for shipping and I would guess would work our cheaper / lighter than custom.

A set of 8k boxes is well past $1500.00 in the US. Due to the volume, shipping them is very expensive for an empty box.

Thanks Bruce, looks cool!

Are the three indents in the bottom for the three feet? How is the case padded, or speaker suspended so that it doesn’t damage the sides of the speaker?

Yes, the holes are for the feet and spike covers to fit in. There is a plywood top plate that screws into the threads for the speaker head studs. This suspends the speaker so that the sides don't come into contact with the crate. The speaker will be wrapped in a foam similar to how they are delivered when new.
