Dear ppl,

I have contacted 3 dealers in my country with the same question: one replied that they aren’t an authorised dealer anymore (even though they are listed at the M website), the second told me to ask the distributor for my country and the third dealer didn’t bother to respond at all.

There are more dealers in my country whom I can ask, but maybe one of the ppl present here can help me instead?

One of my systems is comprised of a MS200 connected to a pair of DSP3200. I use Roon to feed them and I am very happy with speakers and Roon.

BUT ...

Recently I started missing being able to stream music directly (preferably via Wifi) from my MacBook Pro to the DSP3200’s and wonder whether I might be able to accomplish that if I replace the MS200 with the 210 Streamer?

Thanks in advance,

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

A couple of ways the 210 could offer what you're after, over the features of the MS200.

1) If your Macbook has Bluetooth then you could use that to play music via the 210 to the DSP3200.
This would use compression though.

2) If you run a UPnP server on your Macbook (various software solutions available here), pointed at your stored music you can stream to the 210 using UPnP.

Cheers,
Rick

Be aware that Roon will not work via a direct UPnP wired connection between the 210 and your MBP.

I know, I’ve already tried it with my MBP.

However, Roon will connect between your MBP and the 210 via an Ethernet connection.

This is what I currently do between my Mac Mini Server and my 210, by using Devolo powerline adaptors.

If you are familiar enough with computers to format a microSD card and assembly a hifi berry kit, then I'd recommend that solution. HifiBerry is a Roon endpoint, but also shows up as an Airplay speaker: I can just click the volume control icon on the Mac and now the hifiberry is my sound card. =) They cost about $100 or so. I've got three around the house.

Could you please clarify your use-case abit?

Is it not enough to start the roon GUI on your macbook and select MS200 as endpoint?

Do you want games and youtube to come out of your DSP’s?

Thanks ppl for your responses. Appreciated!

@Rick
Thanks, my MBP has Bluetooth so it must be able to play music via the 210/3200 combo. Is using Wifi instead of BT an option too?

@Spinaltap
Like you, I use Roon to connect my MBP (and a MacMini server) to the MS200 via Ethernet too. The current MS200 (future 210) is connected by wire to an (unmanaged) switch.

@JamieB
Although I am fairly familiar with computers I don’t want to assemble anything myself and prefer the easy (but more expensive) route. But thanks for the suggestion!! Speaking of Airplay: wasn’t Airplay listed as one of the connection methods to the 210?

@Crion
I normally use Roon on the MBP and select the music I want to listen to (either ripped or via Tidal) but I have a friend who occassionally sends me music suggestions he found on SoundCloud and although the music quality on my new MBP is not bad at all, I prefer to listen to it via the DSP’s. I guess I will be needing an additional 210 if I want to listen to SoundCloud music in the other Roon zone too?

AirPlay was touted in the pre-production 210 specification, but was cut from the production model. No explanation was offered.

What we do not know is whether or not AirPlay could become available in a future firmware upgrade. That said, we don’t know if the 210 innards contain the requisite AirPlay antennae for it to work.

Although "Wi-Fi Direct" is commonly used, both Airplay senders and receivers can do so over Ethernet.

Another question: can I daisy chain a pair of DSP's from the 210 or do both speakers need to be connected to the 210 streamer directly?
