HI, I'm curious if anyone out there is controlling Roon with an Amazon Fire tablet?
I was considering the HD 10 as a single purpose Roon device as I'd like to have a tablet that I won't have to search all around the house for like the iPads.
Does it deliver a good experience regarding speed, graphics, etc? What are it's drawbacks?
Does the app need to be launched at every wake?
Is it the same playstore app as a Chromebook?
I have tried control on a 1.5 yr old ACER Chromebook but delays, heavy stalls and app restarts made it unusable in my opinion. Barely acceptable using trackpad and kbd and unusable in touchpad mode.
Thanks/

I use a Fire HD8 You have to download the app from the Play store and ignore various Amazon warnings about installing it. It works well enough but occasionally has the odd fever, for reasons I do not understand. It settles down with a restart of the app.

I use the Fire HD 10 for Roon and have done for some time. It works just as well as my iPad mini which I felt was a bit small. I don't find it at all sluggish and finds my core every time it's used, the screen size for me is good and very useable.
You can side load play store if you wish which will allow you to download the App from google but there's no need as the App can be downloaded direct from Amazon.
It does load from sleep okay without having to relaunch, you may find you need to relaunch very occasionally but in my experience not much. Graphics are fine and pretty sharp. I have no real drawbacks apart from not being able to use it in portrait mode but that's the same with most devices for Roon.
A cheap price for a Roon remote!
Hope this helps.

For comparison, I have a Fire 7 and the screen is just a bit too smal for the Roon UIl, but it is usable. It's not as responsive as an iPad, but we've passed it around at parties and it worked. It's been dropped a few times too, which I wouldn't want to happen to an iPad! I'm thinking about a Fire 10 myself.

OK, thank you, good info to think about.
Do anyone using iPads also find occasional reboots necessary and finding the core is solid?

Hi
I use an iPad 4th Gen with a Mophie stand to control my system, which also charges the iPad. It sometimes drops the connection and to be honest I switch it off at the end of the day.
I paid £95 and £25 for the stand, so I was happy with that. I have to say that for circa £149 for a brand new unit seems like a better idea.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Do anyone using iPads also find occasional reboots necessary and finding the core is solid? I've had to reboot the app on the phone/iPad, but Roon core has been solid without reboots. When it's had problems, reboots haven't been the solution. Problems have been the endpoints or connectivity usually.

More good info, thanks
I deleted and reinstalled the Chromebook software and installed Roon Server instead of the whole package on the pc and the Chromebook works fine now so there may have been something specific to my setup that influenced my negative first impression of the android app.
ON a side note, again within my setup, the core seems more stable as I was losing the 218 regularly and required a core reboot.
Really liking the radio shuffle integration.
If the consensus is that both the iPad and fire versions similarly require occasional reboots, Id lean towards the fire. Until the end of the trial though I'll continue with the Chromebook as it really looks nice on a table in its inverted state with keys down and screen propped at angle.

Do anyone using iPads also find occasional reboots necessary and finding the core is solid? I never have a problem with my new iPad. Unless it inexplicably migrates itself to my VPN Wi-Fi network. Neil
