Hi

Am I right in thinking that the HD621 can't output video and audio to a screen (via the HDMI output connection) AND also output audio to the G68 at the same time, from a single source?

My reading of the manual / set up guide is that it's either / or. You can send audio along with the picture to your screen, or you can send audio to the G68.

I've done a lot of searching and reading to find out the answer with no luck so far. I would like to confirm if I understand correctly or I've an issue in setup.

My objective is to plug all of the sources (firestick, PVR, Bluray) into the HD621 and then be able to watch any of them, just using the TV speakers (e.g. watching the news), AND be able to send audio to the G68 from the same source, for when I want to watch a film / program during which I want the better quality / surround sound.

Thank you!

My understanding and experience is that it strips the audio out and the display feed is silent.

Thanks Richard

The instructions talk about the ability to send video and audio on the HDMI out feed.

Quote
"HDMI Output: Video – This outputs the video information present on the selected HDMI input.
By default, it does not carry the audio information, but can be configured to do so."
And in the set up section.
Quote
"The first row, Audio Output, selects the output port used to interface with the system, using the pop-up menu in the “Value” column. This will either be “SmartLink/MMHR” (normally, to use the phono or RJ45 outputs) or, exceptionally, “Video HDMI”, which retains the audio on the the HDMI output along with the video"
So, it looks like you can set it up to send video and audio to the display via the HDMI out. The way it's worded and the config options are chosen, I've assumed that this must turn off the audio feed via all of the other connectors.

From the HD621 Manual:
Quote
HDMI Output: Video – This outputs the video information present on the selected HDMI input. By default, it does not carry the audio information, but can be configured to do so.

Things to keep in mind if you are using Meridian comms:

If the HD621 is on, the G68 is on.

If the HD621 switches inputs, the G68 switches inputs.

You would need to turn off the amplifiers manually in order to have the sound only come out of the TV.

If you want to listen to surround content you would have to turn the TV down or mute it manually.

If you are using DSP speakers, they will also respond to power, input , and volume status.

Unless you are using a control system that can control the HD621, G68, and the DSP speakers discretely, this won't be much fun.

The simple answer is just use surround sound.

Yes it's possible to send audio out to the G68. It will still include audio over HDMI to the TV.
You select the audio output from the HD621 to the G68.
Right click on the HD621 and select "properties", or select "connect" and walk through the setup.
