In the Wiki there is no mention of doing it with no processor.
Can it be done? How?

Thanks!

It is done using a PC and the Meridian Flash Upload program (WinFup) and an appropriate serial cable. If you are using a laptop that does not have a true DB-9 serial port you will need a USB to DB-9 serial adapter such as the Tripplite or IO Gear GUC-232A

Firmware is never uploaded using a processor ... you have to use a Windows PC and Meridian's WinFUP (Flash Upload Program).
What device(s) are you looking to update?

Carl

Ruben and I have correspondended about the firmware, can anyone confirm if the 4.003 version he currently has loaded in the 6ks can be flash updated, or was that the last EEPROM version? The firmware notes don't go that far back.

Cheers

Can't confirm on D6k's, but on D5k's, pretty sure v4.x was the last EEPROM version, everything after that was flash upgradable - presumably that was the 18bit to 96/24 transition..

The cabinet numbers are: 200275 and 200726. They were upgraded to 24/96 on 8/26/99. Both have the 24/96 seal. Firmware is 4.003.
Where are the electronics numbers?

Upgraded speakers generally have different cabinet serial numbers and back panel serial numbers. But it looks like from your description that yours are indeed 24/96 versions.

Thanks Ian, I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case and had mentioned to Ruben that the older 5ks and 6ks had the same firmware numbering.

I wonder if the Saints of MrTechGuy, Tarik, Longitude0 or Swpnt could confirm? And if I've missed any other recapping experts out, my apologies!

Cheers
George

PS, Who was it that was offering EEPROM re-programming fairly recently?

Generally, if the speakers are 24/96 they can be flash firmware upgraded. Only the 18bit models required EPROM chips.

I've had a number of DSP5k's with v4 firmware and have successfully upgraded them to 5.xx

If they've not been re-capped, there is definite mileage in doing them - as many others will vouch - it is THE most cost-effective upgrade you can make to your DSP's!

If you need any help/assistance, please PM me.

Cheers,

Steve
