Hi, I noticed recently that when listening through my headphones to Tidal MQA via my Meridian Explorer2 that the volume level is lower than usual. (Loudness normalization option switched on). FYI I've received the following from Tidal. Yes, with recent updates, when you have the loudness normalization option switched on, the volume is lowered.
When streaming MQA content, Loudness Normalization is not supported for any of the tracks - when using any of the TIDAL clients.
To prevent your volume from being lowered, just make sure to keep that option off. Cheers. Bruce

Hi, I was uncertain if this setting applied only to the Explorer2 as it isn't able to control the volume. The following is Tidal's reply to playing MQA through all Meridian devices. The 'loudness normalization' option should be disabled when streaming MQA. Cheers, Bruce

Volume normalisation should never be on.
All it does is scan the tracks so they all play at roughly the same volume, however, many artists purposefully record different tracks on an album at different levels, so you don't really want this.
Fine as background music, but nor for critical listening.
I would presume they drop the volume by -3dB or so to give themselves some headroom for tracks that are mastered about 0-dB gain.
MQA would be broken with Volume Normalisation, it is no longer bit perfect.
