Dear all,

I want to test a cable connecting PC to SpeakerLink (DSP5200SE) before using it for firmware update.
The cable is Startech USB to Null Modem RS232 DB9 Serial DCE Adapter Cable with FTDI with DB9 to RJ45 to complete the connection to the SpeakerLink input of a master speaker.

I plan to use MConfig to test the connection before using WinFUP for firmware update. My question is can I do this with confidence that it won't damage the speaker? For example if the null modem is not correctly crossed-over?

Many thanks as ever.

Hi,

RS232 and SpeakerLink ports have a degree of protection ... so even if TX and RX and now swapped over no damage will be done.

Just bear in mind that this device has a built in NULL modem, which is fine, but you don't need a second one in the chain.

Regards,
Carl

I can report firmware update to 3.16 was straightforward and without problems using the StarTech null modem cable checking there was just one cross-over.

My end-point is MS600 with its digital audio output set to Direct. First MQA decoding is done by Roon with the MS600 device setup set to Renderer Only.

I play an MQA source and the DSP5200SE speakers display SLS 65, but if I cycle through Display on the MSR+ the master speaker displays OFs 96k. A good sign!

The slave speaker still displays SLS 65. Is this right, or should both speaker's display the same OFs? I re-typed but it's still the same. Any thoughts?

Best wishes all

On my SEs I can set the display so the master shows MQA and sample rate whilst the slave shows volume.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
