I was wondering if someone can help.

I have the following Meridian 861v8, UHD722, Kaleidescape Stratos 4K.

When using the Kaleidescape Stratos in PCM mode with a Dolby True HD or DTS HD 7.1 soundtrack, the 861v8 will only decode 5.1 and shows Movie 6 on the display when it should display Movie 8.

However, when I select Bitstream on the Kaleidescape Stratos the 861v8 shows 7.1 which is correct. However I have always preferred the PCM mode over Bitstream.

I do not have this issue when I use my Pioneer Bluray player.

I was going to say this is a limitation of the Kaleidescape. But it appears that on the Strato players they are now supposed to be able to do 7.1 PCM. Previous players only did 5.1 PCM.

Are you using the main HDMI output of the Strato into the UHD722 or the 2nd output? It sounds like you're getting some kind of EDID mismatch.

Have you contacted your dealer for support? Hard to know if this is to do with the Kaleidescape, UHD722 config, or even the display you're using.
