I run firmware 8.1 on my 861 and I am getting no MQA out of my speakers. I read that a processor might not send the signal thru at all because of the digital processing in the unit.
Best regards Ronald

That's how I understood it. However, the recent 818 firmware works around this (it now recognises partially decoded MQA and passes it intact on to the speakers) and I must have dreamt that there was a similar update for the 861.
If this option isn't available for the 861, one has to wonder why as the architecture is very similar.

The 818 has no room correction.

I doubt MRC in and of itself is the reason for lack of passthrough, firstly it can be switched off, secondly the whole reason for allowing this type of passthrough is to allow processing like RC in, e.g., Roon.

AFAIK, what can’t be turned off in surround processors is the per-channel delay and volume offset processing, even if these are set to “zero” during calibration.

It would make so much sense for Meridian to launch similar firmware for the 861 as it would deliver (in a roundabout-way) on their promise to support MQA on this unit without (one assumes) doing too much work.

Hi,
While I’d love to be +5 on this, I’d be more concerned that what VK is suggesting is a bit more fundamental to the ‘architecture’ of the processors and may not be an easy fix (or a fix at all). The firmware update would seem to allow a MQA enabled device to bypass the processor completely.

Except that, early in the life of MQA, Meridian promised an 861 update to make it compatible. It never materialised, but it would seem to indicate there’s no fundamental hardware problem with implementing it (or why promise it in the first place).
