I recently purchased a new car with a USB port that will play audio FLAC files. My Sooloos library is around 80% Apple lossless (used to use iTunes before Sooloos) and about 20% FLAC.

I was planning to do an export on Control:PC then convert the .m4a files to FLAC using a program like AuI ConverteR Free.

A few questions- is there a way to get Sooloos to export everything as FLAC? If no, does anyone have any suggestions for conversion programs?

Thanks for any suggestions/help!
John

Hi John
Sooloos will either do a native export meaning it is exported in the same format it was imported in or convert everything to MP3.
To convert ALAC to FLAC is fairly easy and there are various converters available for download, I would suggest dBpoweramp which comes with a 21 day fully functional free trial or if not you could try Audio Transcoder

+1 for dBpoweramp (using its bulk batch conversion feature) now available for Mac as well as Windows.

+1 for the batch converter.

Run a full native export from Sooloos first.

Copy a couple of folders to test with first. You will want to get the tagging parameters set well before you batch run your whole library. For example... be clear what you want it to do with compilation albums, artist vs album artist.

Always point the batch convert to a new location NOT the same location as source files. Sounds obvious but it’s a mess if you don’t make sure.

Ask if you are not sure. That said, when set it is as you need, it is very easy to use.

Thanks very much for the replies and helpful advice. I am now enjoying songs in my new car.

Also appreciate the heads up on dBpoweramp. I am in the free trial period, but plan to buy It after the trial is over. It works really well and is easy to use.

Same here (more or less): new car with SD card slots but the car audio system doesnt recognise my AIFF library. Batch converting with dBpoweramp was easy and straightforward, worth the money.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, absolutely love having all of my songs in my new car. I bought the license for dBpoweramp, now use the rip and import into Sooloos. It's a great program and very easy to use.
