Yes, I have so far played with different settings from within Kodi about resample quality, passtrough settings etc.
Non of it helped so far unfortunately.

Or perhaps you mean changing settings on the Meridian site?
If so what do you recommend?

A small update after a while.

I've just received an HDMI/SPDIF extractor.

I have tested again with this device on the Raspberry Pi, and now AC3 5.1 passthrough works fine.
So I think it must definitely be the Hifiberry Digi+ Pro audio card I added to the Raspberry Pi.

What do you guys think?

I use for several year configuration:
- RPi 3B+ + HiFiBerry Digi+ - transformer version
- OSMC
- Meridian G91A + G55
- Connected with Coaxial cable
- in OSMC use 2.0 no of channels
- max bitrate: 96kHz

I had no problem with AC3/DD and DTS passthrough. A also stream FLAC 24/96.

It’s interesting that you never had these AC3 passtrough problems with the HiFiBerry Digi+.
I have also tested OSMC a few months back, and also had the same problems.

What do you mean with transformer version?
I don't have this I think.

I have tested both with coaxial and SPDIF cables/connections, but they both give me same problems.

At the moment I'm using a HDMI SPDIF extractor, which works fine, but would love to use the HiFiBerry Digi+ again.

Are there any special audio related settings you applied within OSMC (Kodi)?

Ok so good news !

The 568 got updated to 1.55 firmware, it was still on 1.54, and now all the AC3 audio playback problems are gone when using the Hifiberry Digi+ !
I'm very curious what this 1.55 has to offer with the release notes, perhaps somebody here knows this.. ?

Anyway, get your 568 updated to 1.55 and your Hifiberry Digi+ problems should be for the past..

Older thread but figured I'd chime in. I'm new and need some posts under my belt!

FWIW the 565 Z3 with Version 6.0 firmware passes through DTS and AC-3 perfectly from the Optical output of my Sony TV to the 565's Optical input while using Kodi. Have to set DD+ E-AC3 as DD only though in the TV menu since the 565 or 568 don't do E-AC3.

Sony's are Android TV so I run Kodi directly off the TV itself. It sounds incredible with movies. Just played the new Arrow 4K Remastered RoboCop Blu-ray which I got, and ripped a digital copy to my NAS which Kodi manages. Arrow included the awesome original raw Dolby Stereo mix as discrete 4.0 LCRS. They included it on a DTS-HD MA 4.0 track like the Alien 40th Anniversary edition 4K BD. Heard it via the core DTS Coherent Acoustics bitstream passthrough and it was simply fantastic.

I recently purchased a 565 Z3 after having used 4ch passive Dolby Surround format decoding with a Carver H9AV + a Rane 22B Delay for the rear for a long time. Sound quality was spectacular but lacked the Dolby Cat 150E style 2:4 decoding of the original PL mode with steering and 30dB plus channel separation for the array. The 565 does original Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoding so much better than other vintage analog or digital processors I have owned all of which muddy and muffle the sound so much. That is why I used passive for so long since the fidelity of the sound was not lost at expense of channel separation. But got fedup w/o steered/discrete Center Channel dialogue when watching movies so I took a plunge on a Meridian processor.

Meridian has the cleanest, purest and best sounding matrix decoding I have ever heard in my life. Their custom music multichannel DSP modes blow away anything in Modern AVRs I have heard in the past. PLII Music and Neo6 have nothing on Meridian's modes. Not sure why I never took a chance on Meridian but I am a believer now. Their custom DSP hardware/software implementation is head and shoulders above others in audio fidelity. Bitstreamed DTS and AC-3 sound better on the 565 than they do on many modern fairly high end big brand AVRs I've used in my downstairs 5.1 system over the years as well. Amazing.
