Hello forum members! This may be the easy question but I couldn’t find the solution myself.

I’d greatly appreciate help from members. So here is the problem. I have connected amazon fire stick to HD621 and HD621 is connected by 3 coax cables to MD1 of 861. I’ve configured Output rate 2x (96k)=Yes in HD621 and HS = Yes in 861.

I can hear 5.1 surround from 861 but it only plays 48k. If I switch off Dolby digital in Fire TV Stick setting, 861 plays 96k in PLII Movie mode.

How can I fix this problem to have 96k surround sound?

Thank you for the all the helps.

Check the Fire TV settings. It may limit you to 48k when outputting 5.1.

Hi Bruce

Thank you for the response. In Fire TV Stick, there are four possible settings.

Dolby digital plus – automatic
Dolby digital plus – off
Dolby digital Plus over HDMI
Dolby digital over HDMI

Except, Dolby digital – off option, which will provide 2 channels stereo so PLII Movie mode in 861, no option provide 96k play.

Is the Fire TV Stick not able to play 96k or am I missing something?

Thank you

The source device needs to be able to output PCM, so from what you’ve listed the best you can do is Dolby Digital (the HD621 doesn’t decode anything, so it passes the DD onto the processor). The 861 will report the input that it receives, but should upscale to 96k internally.

What do the speakers report?

Hi Brian
Thank you for the response. If I push the display button on MSR remote, my center speaker (DSP5500HC) displays MHR 48k. My 861 won’t upscale to 96K. I tried this configuration with G68D, G68D won’t upscale the sound, neither.

Hi,

861 can't decode Dolby Digital AND upscale.

That's why Meridian decode the Dolby digital in their DVD players and pass to 861 using 'three wire' system.
That allows the 861 to subsequently upscale the decoded Dolby Digital.

Oops! _ yes I’d forgotten about the lack of ability to decode and upscale. Thanks, Rick.
