A Meridian 218 will give you Sooloos or Roon. This is if you are looking for a Meridian solution.

Roon

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

I wonder if an Explorer2 would best the 563? I really don't know, but there are a lot of years between the two. Dirt cheap (Meridian) solution for computer audio streaming -- pick the player of your choice.

You could add a USB to SPDIF converter to the 563 DAC.

That would allow you to feed the system from your computer thusly:

Laptop => USB cable => Converter =>SPDIF cable => DAC.

Such solutions can give very good results.

Meridian made the Explorer 1 (now out of production) which provided stereo analogue outputs or a digital optical output. The Explorer 2 only provided analogue outputs (so would feed the 502) but could handle MQA. Both are capable portable headphone solutions too.

USB to SPDIF converters are available in a range of prices and qualities. You want one that is capable of asynchronous operation for best sound quality. A quick Amazon or e-bay search is your friend or you can enter the dark world of high-end converters at your peril crazy

Cheers folks 👍 just brings more questions:

I have an Acer laptop is this ok?
What do I need from it to work?
What sites do I visit to get what’s needed?

Please I’m total beginner.

I recommend starting with the beginning of the audio chain and work along it.

1) Whenever possible use a lossless music format (FLAC or ALAC are good options)

2) Decide what music streaming software you wish to use (Roon, Jriver, ...)

3) Select appropriate computer hardware to run the streaming software (CPU, RAM, SSD, HDD)

4) Select appropriate operating system to run the the streaming software (Windows, MacOS, Linux)

5) Consider DAC / Audio-endpoint options (PCM, DSD, MQA)

6) Amps, Speakers, ...

Of course budget and personal preferences apply ... it’s a huge topic and there’s no one size fits all.

You mention you have an Acer laptop, but that’s like saying I have a car is it ok ... it’s the specification that’s important ... can you share?

Regards,
Carl
