... Available in 1st Class only, those travelling coach get an ear pod each :O)

LG have just announced their 2019 models will be available in the next week so it's possibly a soundbar or mobile-phone-home-cinema type of thing!

Bruce is correct -

Meridian BA Headphones

Now while this isn't quite what I'd hoped for, it might be interesting if Meridian offered headphones outside the BA collaboration - DSP active headphones might be very cool...

I do hope the extra income from all these collaborations end up supporting the development and production of the next round of true audiophile products - I think it's great Meridian diversifying to consolidate their economic situation going forward, but the cachet these partnerships are built upon needs to be maintained and developed.

While I'm generally in favour of finding 'new markets' , I really wish M would not desert the old ones . Its 5 years since the last meaningful software update to 861 and while it's fine to 'Tune' the latest codecs for Lg phones and soundbars and give 1st Class B.A. customers a great sounding flight , can nothing be done for the rest of us ????

I can see why M would be keen to get involved with such deals, they win in two ways.

Firstly they’re guaranteed a reasonable volume of ‘sales’, if they indeed are producing the hardware. How many first class seats to BA have? 700-1000 maybe? That would be a nice manufacturing run. Also they are pretty much guaranteed repeat ‘sales’ every year, headphones will break and somehow I don’t think first class passengers will be immune to un-intentionally ‘acquiring’ the headphones as they leave the flight! I could well imagine that repeat sales might account for 25%+ every year?

Of course the income from a pair of headphones is going to be minute compared to a product like an 861, but volume sales of 861’s and the like are simply never going to happen.

Secondly, placing your brand in such high profile places has got to pay dividends by generating the odd lucrative future big value sales of M equipment. It’s the same with their relationship with Jaguar & Landrover. Most people have never heard of Meridian. However if someone drives an expensive jag and likes the quality of the audio, the brand name will stick in their brain. If they are ever in the market for expensive speakers, who knows, they may well think about purchasing some nice very profitable 8K SE’s?

M have been losing money for several years. Any strategy that helps keep them going will always get my vote. Especially if it means now again they can generate enough income to fund development of a simple piece of equipment like a 218, 271 etc.

Meridian have tried tie-ins already - Ferrari, Alfred Dunhill and of course with LG more recently.
I am a BA frequent flyer and fly First Class twice a year and Business Class at least once a month.
The First Class cabin is rarely full and passengers usually sleep on long haul flights.

I have spotted a few Bose noise cancelling headphones but more often than not, it's the white plastic Apple type.
I doubt Meridian will generate any meaningful exposure through this.
