Adding a Meridian G12 to a 218 (to use with MSR2) seems to be a rather expensive add-on compared to cheaper third-party IR blasters.

What alternatives are utilised by others?

Could you not just use the IP control?

I don't recall anyone successfully making an alternative solution work properly. The wasted time and aggravation of trying to make something else work just to have it become drawer fodder is well worth the cost of a G12. Many have simply just used the IP control app.

Alternatively, if I utilised my Meridian 504 and 506 connected to the 218 via a hitherto unused AC12, is this sufficient in using an MSR2?

I’m content to use IP control.

Why use an MSR2? Technophobe Wife.

IIRC a Meridian 504 does not like being a controller/IR receiver - but why not give it a try?

I found the 504 needed to be forced into accepting non-controller status but if you manually set that it was then happy. I presume the same for forcing it to be controller.

You May want to see my recent comms puzzle thread as it deals with control of a 218 and I have MSR Control now via the DSP master speakers.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Unlike the DSP5200’s, the M6’s are effectively ‘blind’ with no visual display.

I have a redundant G12 that is essentially unused. I bought it years ago. At the time I researched and created a custom wallwart PS and wiring harness to make the G12 compatible with the 8xx and 5xx gear.

But then after all that effort I went with the standard 512 remote extender as it worked best for my application- Doooh!

The G12 itself remains unmolested in its factory box which has been gathering dust in my gear cupboard for a decade. Make me an offer by PM if interested.

While the Meridian Control app is mostly fine for controlling my system, there are times when I simply want to mute the sound or change the volume quickly - without having launch/open the app.

An MSR2/G12 is clearly the solution, but, given that the G12 (£130) is more expensive than an MSR2 (£120), the overall price for buying both items doesn’t sit well with me.

So, for the sake of asking, has anyone yet discovered an alternative/cheaper solution to utilising a Meridian G12?
