It would appear that M have gone for the $4 remote platform made by 'Universal Electronics', available under the 'One-For-All' brand name amongst others.
Badged for other brands they retail around the $25-$30 mark.

I interpret that the “*” star key sends a “0” command to allow easier access to the configuration menu That's a different star and a different context. The "star" key is used to put DSP speakers into config mode ... I can't see how that's relevant to Sooloos or Roon.
