With my office/cinema room nearing completion after a nearly 6 month hiatus due to planning issues I’ve now got to make the decision on replacing my 861 as there appears no chance of it ever getting Dolby Atmos etc.
The plan is to go for a 7/5.x.4 setup.

Going with a Trinnov Altitude 16 and 271 would mean trading the 861, HD621 and MD600 as it will do the job of the 861/HD621 and is a Roon endpoint allowing me to keep my DSPs. Currently the Altitude doesn’t have digital out active though it supposedly in the pipeline.

Anyone else done something similar or planning it, what were your experiences?

Any recommended Trinnov dealers in Kent?

Regards
Peter

You will really like the transition to the 271/Trinnov combination. The room correction, 3D speaker mapping, and onboard HDMI switching are first rate. I have also heard that the Altitude 16 will have digital outputs eventually via a software upgrade. Having a built-in Roon endpoint is a plus as well.

Bruce,

Have you heard from Trinnov on the digital output, as I thought only available on the top end product, hence can’t stretch to it?

Taken plunge on 271 (arrived and nearly installed) so quite interested although may have to be a 2019 addition!

I was told that a update would enable multi channel digital outputs on the Altitude 16. Also at least in the US, the Altitude 16 comes with the immersive codecs where with the Altitude 32 series it is a $2500.00 add on.

Thanks for the interesting news Bruce .

I get told from Trinnov that the Altitude 16 dont get digital outputs...
that was about a year ago-so very good news on that :-))

I do not understand the marketing here as the A16 already have all analogue outputs,
and to get analogue you have to have a digital signal before....
so everything is existend except
one or two flat cable (in front of the internal D/A) and then to be wired to the DB25 socket on the backplane.

Very interesting news on codecs, special when its Auro.
Then you can upmix a 2channel source to MChannel.
Its a perfect replacement for the 861-sorry to say that- but that is the truth at least for me.

On the other side my Trinnov Amethyst stream stereo so well,
that just with TWO 8k only the sound is better as
to stream with the ID40 or the 218 and play Trifield or other DSP modes with all 7 speakers....
Of coarse, the RC from Trinnov is active in all cases, i had made my own Meridian-Trinnov merriage.

Digital output on the 16 model will be via its ethernet audio connection if it happens. I got this response from Trinnov support about 6 months ago: “We would like to implement some audio over IP protocol which could be AES67 compatible but there is no development planned for the moment or anything. Don't wait for it too much :)”. Also, I suppose there's no guarantee it will be compatible with the 271 input.

For info, this video summarises the main differences between the 16 and 32 models (at around 2 min 50s).

Main ones are:
- fewer inputs
- no upgradability
- no native support for 192kHz due to smaller processor

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Thanks cliff,

I just contacted Trinnov HQ with a couple of questions, I could share it when somebody is interested.

We have to find the correct place for that as its not pure M and not pure T, but maybe I take too much weight of that.
A network solution is of course a good way if it become available.

Thanks Robert

Keep us posted Robert. Not in a hurry, but I'm keeping an eye on the Altitude 32. Since it's limited to 16 channels of digital output, the Altitude 16 with digital output would be a nice alternative.

A happy but sad day today.

Thanks to some PMs (esp. Cliff, cheers) I've managed to bag a Altitude 32. 16 channels with the 3D codecs and the HDMI 2.0 board for a very reasonable price! So I'm happy.

I started with a 565 and must have had a Meridian processor for 20 years so it's sad that once it arrives along with the 271 I will be selling my 861 (and HD621 and MD600).

I've just got figure where are all those extra speakers are going to go to make use of 16 channels!

Thanks all.

Regards
Peter

Congrats on your purchase! Are you planning to go analogue out from the Altitude into the 271 or digital?
In any case, keep us updated about your installation.

Hi,

It's going to be a digital connection from the Trinnov to the 271.

Congrats - that's the Trinnov model to go for. It should sound great with the 271.
