Am I correct in my understanding that Loewe OLED panels are supplied by LG?

Sorry for the tardy reply. I did go with a 55" LG OLED. Overall I am pleased with the form and function. The smart features (like direct access to Prime and Netflix) are used a lot. The stream from NAS (albeit after a few days of transcoding my dipped DVD image files) works fine too. 4k looks nice but I am not obsessed with it.

The downside... sport. I have turned OFF just about every damn so called image enhancer or image feature. I was really spoiled with the Kuro screen before this.

I love my Einstein science books but I don't actually want to see cricket balls and foot balls splitting into 2 or 3 places at the same time. It really is that crap if you don't turn the image stuff OFF.

Dialling down all the colours and other image adjustments is also helpful to prevent retina burn.

Overall - it's a nice screen. Could do better is what the teacher would write in the report though.

Rgds,
Nick

It is my understanding that most OLED Panels used by Panasonic, Sony, Loewe etc. are manufactured by LG. At least that's what I'm told by Sony, Panasonic reps. The specification placed on LG to manufacture panels for each of Sony etc. will be different hence the difference when comparing each and of course each applies their special picture processing techniques.

So if you want the best motion processing go for Sony OLED not LG or Panasonic or Loewe by the sounds of it.

Personally I would go for the new Sony AF9 but I don't like the easel type paraphernalia on the back so may well go for AG9. I've looked at Samsung QLED with the latest 55/65Q90R range and they look very good with (my big bugbear with LED panels) almost perfect viewing angles. Test vieiwng between Sony and Samsung is coming soon as I feel an upgrade is due from my 3 year old Sony (with pathetic viewing angles!).

I watched the FA cup final via the iPlayer in UHD, the ball only split into three on six occasions as I recall.

I attended the AV forum’s OLED shoot out where they set up a LG, Sony, Panasonic and a Toshiba set. They had covered up everything but the screen so it was ‘blind’ to all but the organisers. They did various tests with and without processing. And calibrated and non-calibrated. The Toshiba had the most votes at the end of the day, and I think the LG had the lowest votes.

The test was all about picture quality and not everyday use. I have a LG OLED and navigation through menus and settings, and the wand remote make it very easy to use. And webOS is also pretty good. I think the majority of the other units that use Android, which I’ve been less impressed with in some previous TVs.

The last test of the night was a calibrated Toshiba v a calibrated QLED. With the tests that were shown to us, the OLED was vastly superior.

I’m sure there’s a piece on AV forums to read up on the test.

Thanks, Edd

No issues with Freeview, nor with Freeview Play.

Loewe Bild 7 and Bild 9 have bespoke LG panels. The remainder have standard panels.

Thanks for that, it makes me more confident with Loewe when it comes to replacement time.

Mine is an older Loewe Art40 and whilst it has a DVB-T2 tuner, it doesn't really work, the lipsync drifts after a while and none of the Freeview bits work; a result of it not really being designed for the UK market, I ended up using a separate Freeview set top recorder with it.

All the best,

Steve.

Now that it’s been a while since this thread started, is everyone still happy with their OLED purchases?

Every OLED TV I've seen at Target and BestBuy now has horrific burn in. Some of them have visible text, presumably from not having a "bouncing" screen savers. Others appear to have a dark cloud in the middle - which could easily be explained by looking at a "bouncing" screen saver over time and plotting which pixels get the most time "on".

What’s the real world experience?

Totally happy, no burn in, no image issues, no faults after 2 years. LG 65 OLED.
