I purchased my Meridian G08 CD player in 2003 to replace a 500 transport, 518 de-jitterer and 566 24-bit DAC- and I've loved it ever since.
Recently, the G08 started to behave oddly and then it would not power up at all. So I took off the covers and with my meter, detected that the power supply board was getting power, but that it was not emitting any of the three voltages it should have been (+5V; +12V and -12V). Through another post on the HHG (see below), I was able to diagnose that the PSU had fried, after only 15 years of sustained use (!)
Thank you so much to JohnSWimer for both describing the process and the amazing photos of the dead power supply. The PSU in my G08 looked EXACTLY like John's G98 photos from 2012 - the underside of the circuit board beneath the transformer was discolored - only obvious when I knew what to look for - and the yellow tape around said transformer was burnt.
I was able to source a new PSU from Allied Electronics in Forth Worth, TX and for less than $60 all-in, my G08 once again sounds as good as new. Thank you John and thank you HHG forum!

I should have said that I purchased my G08 CD player new in 2003, instead of in 2013 - so I've owned it for 15 years now. I think my original post is now too old to edit - sorry for my gaff
