Hello everyone,

There is a low buzz that comes from the rear left channel that can be heard when nothing is playing.
It's always the rear left channel on the G68 that's the issue, I've done all the testing, cabling swapping etc. to determine this.
I spoke with Rick at Audio Images (via PMs on here) around getting it sorted and he felt a service would cure it.

Any other suggestions, welcome.

Is the buzz there if you use the digital outs into DSP speakers, if not may work for DSP owners?
Perhaps you could test with cheap a DAC, if you don’t have access to DSPs.

More bad news Meridian don’t repair G68s anymore partly due to lack of spares combined with cost of diagnosis and labour to repair.

I must admit I'd not thought of that, I'll try and give it a go tomorrow. I don't have DSPs so it'll have to be the DAC option.

You will need to reconfigure to DSP on rear I think. Suggest you set to 18bit 5000s.

Ok, I may have fallen at the first hurdle.

I have it configured all fine but the problem is my DAC won't accept the input and shows it as "encoded bitstream" but I can see no way of changing this to PCM in the G68. Given how this is supposed to be used it's probably entirely logical.

As an aside there is no buzzing from the rear left speaker but whether that's because they're seeing no signal I'm not sure. With the analogue, there doesn't have to be a signal, just having it powered up is enough.

Anyway, that's where I am unless I'm doing something daft or someone has another bright idea.....

Make sure that the G68 is not sending out upsampled PCM, as that will exit the unit as MHR encoded and won't work with any other DAC.

You need to set the output in config for the older 18bit DSP5000s as Linnasak noted above, as that will force 1x non MHR output.

You might also want to check from the G68 front display that HS=N instead of HS=Y.

Thanks, I tried many speaker options including the DSP5000s as suggested, all with the same result. Is there anything specific I'm looking for just in case I'm picking the wrong thing? By the way none of my options show 18bit or whatever...

I'll check the HS option too, thanks for that.

Check out properties on speakers, after adding 5000s to rear.

You can then select if 96khz / 24bit capable

Perhaps you are stuck with needing a friend to loan DSP.
