Not having much luck after a relocation. Looks like other than the problems I’m having with the 861, I have also lost a midrange driver on one of the DSP6000 head units, only the tweeter and bass drivers are working. If I swap the head unit to another DSP6000, the problem moves to the new speaker so it doesn’t seem to be amp related.
So, am looking at how his head unit might be repaired. Not even sure what wrong, after taking off the speaker grille and undoing the bolts, nothing seems like it wants to be removed for inspection. The drivers look ok.
Any thoughts on what may be the issue and best approach to try and repair?
Thanks HH Jon
PS Edit: The Midrange driver was working during calibration, although sounded off just before it stopped working.
Not sure if my experience is relevant but I have a pair of M100’s which had the electronics refurbished but when I reassembled them one speaker had no treble? It turned out to be a pin on one of the two connectors that connected the amplifier output to the speaker enclosure, the pin had pushed back in to the connector slightly causing the fault, Chris at Meridian Repair Shop remixed the pin and it was fine. I wonder if your issue could be similar?
When I move the faulty head unit (Rear Right) to another speaker (Front Left) I connect it to the head unit cable that works for Front Left and the problem persists, with a known good DSP base and head unit cable.
Scouring previous threads there seem to be a couple of candidates to replace the DSP6000 head Unit midrange driver. I gather the SEAS P17REX/P-me H540 polyprop driver with plastic phase plug , 6 ohm is the unit that is used, however searching for this on the SEAS site / eBay doesn’t turn anything up, perhaps end of life? Another candidate replacement driver is the Vifa XT18W009 08 8 ohms 6.5" 88db driver but again I haven’t been able to locate this item anywhere.
Still not sure if sourcing a replacement driver is the way to go however, but any guidance on where I may locate these drivers or try and resolve the problem?
You might try getting the existing unit repaired. That should be possible, although it may be difficult to ensure that the unit is exactly the same after repair. I imagine that there are repairers in Australia but, if not, there is one in London that I know of.
