Hi all,

My G65 died and I'm talking to the dealer to see if it can be fixed. In the mean time I was hoping to drive my to DSP5200's directly from the MC200 using SpeakerLink; I believe this is possible, even though this option is not mentioned in the speaker manual. The MC200 manual shows a picture, but does not explain how to setup the speakers to make this configuration work.

I must be doing something wrong; I get sound from the slave, but the master just seems to switch on and then off again, without any sound. Must be some small Meridian idiosyncrasy that I'm unaware of.

Is there anyone out there that can point me in the right direction? Much appreciated.

When you say 'Master' speaker, do you mean the one with the Red LED on it do you?
(Not just the first speaker connected to the MC200 directly)

In your surround system you may have your centre DSP speaker configured as a Master (red LED).

Now you move both floor-standing (slave) DSP speakers to direct connection to the MC200 you must set the one directly connected to the MC200 to be a Master (red LED) by re-typing it.

In any Meridian speaker setup there must be one (and only one) Master speaker.

There should be no reason at all that the G65 couldn't be repaired, it's still a current product from Meridian.

Hi Bruce, Rick,

Thank you for your replies. I still have the same problems unfortunately.

Pressing "Clear" in front of the master speaker, shows briefly "Auto" then "Con." Interestingly enough, the other speaker does not show "N. Con".

And, correct, I have no Center speaker in the system at the moment, the first speaker is the master (red led), the daisy chained speaker is the slave (yellow dot only).

In addition to my description of the problem, i.e. Master is not playing, slave plays, there are a few other weird things happening. When I switch the speakers on with MSR+, both speakers come on with "SLS 65" in the display. The slave starts playing, but the master cycles down; it goes through "Meridian" and "5200SE" and then shows the red led and a green dot. It basically switches itself off. Subsequently when I type a command on the remote, for example change volume, the slave responds very sluggishly.

What standard setting Type should the speakers be? I have Type 1 for 2-channel systems? Is this correct?

I have also gone through configuring the speaker (I.e. switching on while pressing 0), but all settings seem to be correct. I've even gone through configuring the sources and would like to confirm that Comms Type should be 4C?

Anyway, any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Jan

Please verify exactly how your system is connected from the MC200 to the speakers including all currently connected components.

Hi all,

I can't believe how complicated it is to get such a basic setup to play. Surely this should be the most straightforward setup in the M-world. I've set it up as below; can't think of any other plausible installation.

Switch --> (network) MC200 (SpeakerLink) --> (input) DSP master (output) --> (input) DSP slave

Just to verify that one of the DSPs is not broken, I have also changed out (and reprogrammed) the two speakers. The (new) master shows the same behavior as the DSP that was master earlier. Slave plays music; master doesn't.

It must be a setup issue with the DSPs. I don't think there is any setting up you can do with the MC200. Anyone?

Yes, you do need to configure the MC200 correctly. Run Meridian Sooloos config on a PC. This is not the same config as the tool used to set up non-Sooloos devices.

Hi John, not quite sure what you mean.

The Sooloos Configuration program is to set the device as core or not, to allow DHCP and to allow storage on the device. It also allows the user to reboot, shut down or restart the device. There are no setting to do with the configuration "downstream" of the device.

Can you please explain what you think I should do?

Jan,

Within the Meridian Sooloos Configuration application there are two separate entries for the MC200. The first is, as you say, related to DHCP etc. The second, slightly lower down separated by a line and slightly indented is for the Audio Endpoint within the MC200. Click on that section and you will see a second set of menu items, the last being the ability to select Meridian Integration - make sure that that box is ticked and that the system address, product address and source numbers are set appropriately.

Hope this helps - it may be that you have already set up Meridian integration within the MC200?

John

Hi John,

Thanks. There is, indeed, another menu.

Meridian Integration was checked so that's OK.

Also System Address and Product Address are set correctly. That is to say, they are the same as on the Master DSP configuration menu, both 1.

I understand the source address to be the number of the button whereby the device is selected on the remote. That is also set correctly, as the display on the DSP shows the device name when selected. Previously, I have exchanged button AUX (the 4th button) for the SLS button. I must have also exchanged the name on the G65, which has been communicated to the DSP. As I'm writing this I'm wondering how many other settings have also been carried over from my previous working setup with the G65.

The only configuration setting on the DSP that I do not understand is the Comms Type. I have tried both 4C (for a Meridian Media Server) and NC (for otherwise).

I still have not made any progress. The Master still switches on, then cycles off, while the Slave starts playing the left channel.

I'm close to giving up, unless someone can suggest a new avenue. Is there a way of resetting everything and starting from a blank sheet?

Thanks, Jan

Altough different than your set up I have used a MC200 in the past direct (SPDIF) to DSP5K. If you have a SPDIF cable lying around, you could try this.

Is your dealer not willing to help you out, I think you have struggled long enough?

Good luck

That looks fine to me (I don't have SL speakers though) and TBH, should have been just plug and play.

The fact that the master reboots (even when speakers swapped, it follows the master [controller?]) suggests that the physical wiring does not match the above (it won't be the first time and won't be the last and people won't hold it against you and just ge glas you are sorted) or there is a physical issue, either a cable fault or in the MC200.

The speaker should not just reboot.

The bit that has me scratching my head is the daisy chained slave working but master upstream is having problems. If the master is 'rebooting', how, if it is indeed wired as above, can the slave still be playing as it is daisy chained through the 'rebooting' master. Or is the master really rebooting/switch on/off?
