Yes. The main premise for use in an Meridian System is to avoid the HD621 altogether (and the HDMI run to it).
I use a VanityLite (no longer available) to connect my Oppo 103 to my 861v.4. I also run my DirecTV box to the Oppo HDMI input, then out the vanity mod SPDIF to the processor.

Just curious. Why are you running the DTV HDMI to the Oppo? Does it not have a toslink out? I'm running a toslink out from my Dish box to my G68 and the Vanity mod SPDIF to the G68.

You can run the audio via coax or toslink instead of using the Oppo HDMI audio from the source but if you have something like an Apple TV or Roku that doesn't have any audio output the Oppo will decode DD and DTS where the HD621 does not. My Oppo will also do DTS X for 2 channel PCM if you rather use that. And of course you can use the coax SPDIF output on your Oppo and let the Meridian processor handle the surround processing like TV logic for 2 channel PCM videos. The Oppo has very good video processing if you want to use that feature.
At some point when I eventually upgrade my projector to an HDR 4k projector I will buy the UHD 203 with the Vanity203HD card for sure. I love my 103 with vanity103HD.

Hi Kevin
I use the Vanity HD board in an Oppo '93 driving an 861v4 and have been very impressed with it. I have that single HDMI source running to the projector, so no need for the additional inputs of an HD621. In theory, the vanity HD could sound better as it avoids HDMI processing altogether, but I've never compared the two options. If you have any SACDs, the Oppo/Vanity HD combination sounds pretty good indeed.
Cheers
George

Ken-I believe as Ronomy states it was to get DD and DTS HD decoded in the Oppo and output as PCM. This allows my Oppo to output HDMI video to both my flatscreen and projector and PCM audio via the Vanity SPDIF outputs. The DTV box is my only source using HDMI out besides the Oppo.

I was feeding my VHD103 directly to my 5.0 DSPs for a while, the sound was very clear and dynamic, better than "VHD-568.2mm-DSPs" to my ears.
But I lost LFE channel totally, cause there is no 5.0 downmix inside the OPPO103, only 2.0 or 5.1 or 7.1.
PS my 103 is LPS modded.
