Is it possible to have 3ch system (L, R, C) without surround controllers (G65 or 861)?

The system would be: HD621, DSP5200.2 and DSP5200.2HC for center.

I could use coax digital out from HD621 to 5200.2 coax input and get L/R channels (master/slave).

The second coax out from HD621 can connect to 5200.HC coax input (center speaker).

For volume and source control I can use MSR+ remote. I don't know if center speaker should be master or slave? Besides coax cables should I use Comms ports for control?

I wonder if this setup is possible?

Also instead of HD621 can I use Oppo player with vanityHD modification?

Yes but, you would have no level adjustment to balance the three speakers without a surround controller. You will also have no bass management so it will be sending full range to all the speakers.

It may be that you get lucky and they are close anyway (I did). As long as comms is hooked up, the volume will be synced.

What inputs are you using?

A 568.2mm or basic G68 can be had for relatively little these days.

The HD621 will not synthesise a centre channel when fed a stereo signal.

PC HDMI out to HD621

He doesn't need to synthesize a center if he is watching 5.1 movies that his player needs to decode to 5.1 PCM.

He will lose rear effects and some bass though.

Do the Oppo's offer variable out on the digital outputs? Or are the multi channel, variable outputs only analogue?

Only variable on the analog out board that came with the player. That's what I read...I never tried it. Next chance I have my system turned on I can check to make sure that statement is true.

I did confirm that volume control on the Oppo 103 does not work with the VanityHD card installed.

VanityHD card in the Oppo 103 is fantastic with a 568.2mm by the way. Sound quality blows away my old 598 and I can stream high res music with it from my PC via my local network.

They don't need to, for any scenario.

Thank you guys. If I understand correctly I could use both HD621 or Oppo with vanityHD to have 3ch system but downside is not having channel balance that way. Right?

Also should center speaker be master or slave for volume control with MSR+?

I would still consider a processor, it adds so much.

Considering you could get a G68 for about the same money and have full control seems a better way of going.

Then get an Ultra HD player with analogue out.

Any speaker can be Master and Any speaker/device can be Control.

I don't think you need a Master Cable in this setup.

Not sure if the HD621 can be Controlller.

Controller means who recieves IR commands for the system.

Master is first speaker in the COMMs chain.
