I noticed that the Gorillaz album Demon Days which was released on the Virgin label is now available in MQA format via Tidal. Is this one of the first albums from the Universal group and can we expect more releases soon? Here's hoping smile

I get a chuckle every time when I see that Blur's albums are available in MQA.

Damon Albarn's solo album 'Everyday Robots' is available on Tidal with MQA and has been de-blurred extensively.

As far as I am aware, the Virgin label was eaten by Warner. Certainly the classical Virgin releases I know are now on Warner.

Despite the potential goldmine being opened, there seems to be only a trickle of new material appearing on Tidal.

Searching for Tidal Masters from a range of non-classical, non-obscure artists across genres such as jazz, 60's, prog, country and world reveals huge gaps and opportunities.

There is no Who, Zappa, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Fairport, Roxy Music, etc.

The Tidal Masters spreadsheet has been stuck at ~2670 for some time.

Disappointed at the moment.

I would say not to be discouraged, at least not yet

The slow way that the spreadsheet grew to ~2,600 albums created a false impression IMHO... as the majority of those albums were actually available from Tidal since January 6th... but they were just "hidden" as Tidal did a very poor job of making them "visible"

Most of the above albums were from the Warner label... who signed up with MQA last May... and therefore took several months to produce those ~2,400 albums

Likewise, UMG have promised 100,000 tracks [8,000 albums]... and IMHO these will become available in one or two large tranches... rather than a X albums a week

So, hopefully UMG will get their ducks in row soon and start releasing... while also bearing in mind that there is real value in them going back to 1st gen masters and getting the most data possible from those masters, for subsequent processing / MQA encoding

The latest news from MQA seems to me a very clear indication that Sony are now on board so all three major labels are signed up! 😃
