I've downloaded the upgrade and all the attendant info. Upgraded firmware ok. Upgraded to the new Meridian application. Uploaded saved settings. Now, when the machine is turned on, My name is displayed and then bad software is displayed. Does anyone know what went wrong? I am afraid to turn the unit on.

Did you read the upgrade.pdf ? Bad software is mentioned there clearly and is associated with not all files being done. So, I'd guess that your upgrade didn't do all files. Did you use the winfup.exe ?

You should have uploaded the setup file from the 568.2 before you made the firmware update I would think. Maybe not though.
I would try creating a new setup file and make sure you select version 2.5 or higher in the config software.
If you are using your uploaded file you need to delete all your old presets that are not supported anymore. Any presets you created yourself will not be deleted during the upload. Delete the old cinema preset. You will see two. Delete the one that has a 7kHz filter turned on for the rears.
The other issue is did all the new files load correctly? Did you use winfup? I had to use an older winfup than is online but I'm using windows 95 so that could have been my problem.
After the problem is fixed!
The default setting for LFE in the cinema preset is set to -10...it should be zero. Other than that you should check to make sure upsampling is turned on in all the presets for the default has some of them turned off.
Regards,
Ron
Nick is right...it's most likely an install problem. Just retry the install and make sure your installing the correct files. Load them into the 568 directory so winfup will see them. You may have reloaded your old files or mixed the two versions together.

Thank you for the replies. What I didn't do BEFORE uploading the new firmware was to upgrade WinFUP. After the upgrade, the installation went just as advertised. Thanks!

Now that's funny! I needed the older version and you needed the newer. Must have something to do with my using windows 95. My XP PC is in another room and I have an old Laptop with 95 on it. Just so convenient with the laptop.
Glad it all worked out for you.
Cheers,
Ron

Glad you're sorted. With the new winfup, you can clearly see the 4 files stacked up and watch the progress as each goes in. You'll see the 'bad program' messages etc as you go through on the front panel display. At the end - Robert is your Dad's brother.
Dare I say it (and I've been as guilty as any)....RTFM.
Now sit back and enjoy. When you're ready, what did you think of the upgrade?
Cheers
Nick

Now this may seem like a stupid question.........
I can't seem to find the 568.2 latest firmware that has apparently just been posted on Meridian's website!
Can anyone please post an 'Idiots Guide' simple step-by-step guide as to exactly how to:-
(a) Find the software (b) What exactly you need to do to download onto your PC (I am OK with connecting up the serial cable to the processor!)
Meridians site is littered with all manner of Fuploads, Winfups, MConfig, Meridian.exe, different versions of software etc.. and I find it all rather confusing!
I downloaded the latest Winfup but this only seemed to contain firmware for the 598 version 102!!!!!!!
It's a while since I last did this connecting up the 568.2 to my PC lark and I really would be most grateful if some kind soul (like Nick ncpl) could talk me through it!!!
I can't believe I'm the only f***wit out here who would greatly benefit from this!
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, All you need to do is scroll a little further down the software page http://www.Meridian-audio.com/lib_soft2.htm and you will see 568.2 public beta. All the downloads and directions are there to download. You'll see 500 series, then DSP loudspeakers and voila! 568.2 Public Beta!! You will have to download the meridan.exe file to replace with the file in your current setup directory. It's a Beta version so not so straight forward and upgrade. Ron

If you still don't see it, make sure you flush your browser cache (ctrl-f5 in IE) and if you run through a proxy server, ensure that it is also up to date.
The date on the page should read 31 July 2004.

Steve,
I should be around all week. Give me a shout if/when you need. It'll cost you a cold one though ;-)

Ron, Ian, Nick,
Thanks for the advice. I am indeed a f***wit as I couldn't understand why other people were describing things that I could not see on Meridian's website - flushing the Browser did the trick - Well done Ian!
I have looked at the instructions and it looks straightforward but sit by the phone Nick, just in case......... (the Stellas are in the fridge!!!)
Thanks Guys,
Steve
